Time: 9:00am until 1:00pm Toilet Training for Children with Autism and other Developmental Disabilities presented by Maranda L. Porter, MS/P .... Outreach Coordinator/Behavior Consultant The Reardon Center for Autism/Advance Academy This workshop provides an overview of behaviorally based effective toilet-training programs for children with autism, other developmental disabilities, and/or just hard to train typical developing children. This workshop is aimed at parents as well as professionals who deal with children that have not responded successfully to traditional methods of toilet training, or show inappropriate elimination patterns. Participants will learn how to measure, implement, and assess the effectiveness of basic behavioral methods for reducing toileting problems. Participants need no prior knowledge or formal training in applied behavior analysis. The presenters will discuss representative cases and their outcomes, and can give advice to participants about approaches to their own cases. Participants attending this workshop will learn the following: •Step-by-step instructions for the development and implementation of effective systematic toilet training. •Data collection tools, visual supports, and social stories to promote successful implementation. •Increase awareness and knowledge of the impact of Autism and other developmental disabilities on the training of toileting skills. •Learn positive and proactive intervention strategies to planning a toileting program. •Identify and understand the main triggers for problems in toilet training (problems with body awareness, poor communication skills, fear of new situations or changes to established routines in toileting, and difficulties interpreting bodily sensations for toileting) This workshop is appropriate for parents and professionals.
