, I'm not sure if this is your area....but, I'd like to see the per-student cap on HB1133 raised for students with IEPs. Do you know what I'm talking about?HB1133 is the tax--> tuition program, whereby I can redirect $2,500 (if filing jointly) of my GA tax liability to an SSO, who gives the money to a designated school. HB325 capped the per-student amount at $9,437 because that's their calculated average to educate a child in GA. But not a child with autism....or a child with CP...or dyslexia, etc.I've talked with two senators (Chip and Albers) who will re-address it next legislative session. They feel that SB10 takes care of that. But SB10 doesn't include local funds, and isn't nearly enough (average amt of $6,000). -cynthia wiseman PLEASE FORWARD- Do you know about the Georgia State Advisory Panel on Special Education? http://bit.ly/Iux9KD YOU CAN MAKE PUBLIC COMMENT - this Thursday from 4:00 to 5:00- you could call in or come in person or write! The rules state that you must give 3 days notice- so put in your notice. PLEASE put the call out to adults with disabilities, current students and family members to COME and talk to the panel. Less than 3 people on average submit or verbally provide comment- it is a simple process and if you need help- I would be happy to assist you: http://bit.ly/I4JtFy TOPICS that I would think are RIPE for public comment: 1. Complaint and investigation by the Department of Justice into Georgia Funding Formula: http://bit.ly/yoRc8h 2. Criminalization of behavior of Kindergartener (possible child find violation) by using handcuffs http://on.wmaz.com/J6mc0Y Increase in criminalization of behavior relating to disability- school to prison pipeline is composed of many students with unmet educational needs. 3. The latest abuse cases in our schools http://bit.ly/Ik4skI 4. And...... what else you been thinking about? It could also be positive comments- although those folks don't usually call me. The SAP meets THIS Thursday and Friday at The University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education on 1197 South Lumpkin Street | Athens, Georgia 30602 - 3603 - here is the agenda: http://bit.ly/Ia3HrN and directions: http://www.georgiacenter.uga.edu/uga-hotel/contact Public comment is at 4:00 on Thursday or you can make written comment: http://bit.ly/I4JtFy K.
