March 14, 2011 Waycross, GA March 15, 2011 Valdosta, GA March 16, 2011 Milledgeville GA This training has been in collaboration with the Delmarva Foundation Georgia Quality Management System and the Georgia Advocacy Office. The goal of the training is to assist people in recognizing positive assumptions, principles, and practices which have proven to be important as a framework for supporting persons who are or are at risk of being devalued by society. Description: The purpose of this event is to give participants a practical introduction to the concept of Social Role Valorization (SRV) and some of its main elements. SRV is a theory that contains certain positive assumptions, principles, and practices which have proven to be important as a framework for supporting persons who are or are at risk of being devalued by society. In particular, it is designed to help participants understand some of the devaluation process that society and even human services perpetrate upon persons. And then to assist participants to understand the power of social roles to counteract some of the effects of devaluation and to their importance in assisting people who have been marginalized to have a full and inclusive life. This concept is vital and part of the foundation needed to create high quality human services. Audience: This training is designed Support Coordinators, Self-Direct Providers/Families and Providers of Developmental Disability services. Presenter: The training will be conducted by Darcy Elks with the Georgia Advocacy Office. Darcy has been a human service provider, trainer, consultant, evaluator and advocate on behalf of people who are societal devalued for over 25 years. She has traveled extensively throughout the United States and in many other countries and worked with a variety of people including persons who have themselves been marginalized by society, advocates, family members, and human service providers.
