Guest guest
Where do you live? BTTC in Richmond/Rosenberg has an ABA-based, short-term residential program. Stays at BTTC residential are typically for 6 months or less and usually there is some specific behavior that is being targeted (aggression, for example). There are a few BCBAs on staff there. It is not intended to be a long term or permanent placement. BTTC Residential is part of Texanna, and, depending on where you live, you might be able to access it through your MHMRA. Guest guest
Off the top of my head -- I would say no. Just as they don't have to comply with TAKS testing and such. Guest guest
Yes, it does. It applies to " public and private schools, day care, or institutes of higher education " . Guest guest
Hi everyone, I am needing some help finding the right school for my son for 1st grade. He is extremely high functioning ASD, but has a speech delay that we are working hard on and he is doing amazing. Right now he goes to a private, church based, regular ed pre-school, and is accompanied by his ABA therapist. She is there for support and extra help, only if needed. He takes instruction solely from the teacher and class assistant, and follows the same curriculum as the other kids do. He gets no special treatment and is doing great within that setting. He works and plays well with the other children. The school he currently attends only goes until kindergarten, and we will be needing to find a school where he can attend 1-12th grade. We have decided that public school is not a good option due to class size, and we feel as though he does not need to be in a special needs setting. We are looking for a private school that has an open mind and is willing to allow my son to attend school accompanied by his therapist. We are not sure if the therapist will need to attend school with him full time, or part time, but we just want to be sure that he has some extra help, at our expense, if he needs it. I have been looking online for private schools in our area, and have not come across anything that seems suitable. I spoke to one director, and her attitude about this non-conventional approach was not very positive, so I am hoping there is a school out there that will be willing to be open minded, just as his pre-school was when he started there 2 years ago. Cornerstone Academy in Acworth offers both a class and homeschooling setting, and I like the idea of that model where he would attend school twice a week, and be home schooled the other 3 days. He definitely needs the social aspect of school, but also does really well with one-on-one learning, so I think that approach might work. I am not sure if Cornerstone would be a good fit, or if they would even consider my approach for my son. Does anyone have any experience or information on Cornerstone Academy, as well as any others?? We live in the Dallas/Acworth/Kennesaw area, and was hoping that someone could help to give me some insight on any private schools that they know of that may be a good fit for my son. I am in the research stage right now, and am trying to plan ahead so that when it is time, we have him in the right place that he needs to be so he can continue to progress. Thank you so much for any information...I really appreciate it! e
