Guest guest
Hello - We are thinking of relocating to the Atlanta area from Long Island, NY. Jobs are not an issue as my husband is retired and I work part time - we are just searching for a nicer home in better weather in a decent family neighborhood. I have a 10 year old son with PDD NOS. He is doing great academically, his main issues are impulsivity, some task avoidance behaviors and he is easily distracted. He is currently in an out of district placement, 6-1-3 class and it works nicely for him. He receives speech and OT at school and attends an afterschool social skills program. Here on Long Island we have 127 school districts, some great, some horrible. What suits one parent may not suit another. But I can name at least 5 districts here that have a good " reputation " for programs, teachers, etc. I guess what I am asking is which districts around Atlanta would you suggest I consider? I would be more interested in the middle school and high school level programs, as he only has one more year left in elementary school. I have done extensive research on Atlanta area school districts, but there is nothing like hearing the experience of other parents. You can email me offline at mercim@.... Thank you! Guest guest
We have been very happy in the Gwinnett County school district(North of Atlanta). We're in the northern part of the county in the Lanier Cluster. My girls are in the 5th grade so we don't have experience with the middle or high schools yet. Our experience at the elementary level has been wonderful though. Wendie > > Hello - > > We are thinking of relocating to the Atlanta area from Long Island, NY. Guest guest
I moved here from Syracuse, NY back in 2005 and was amazed to learn that all of the schools in GA are done by county. I live near Augusta, GA and learned very quickly that Columbia county schools were MUCH better than Richmond county. In the Atlanta area, I have heard good things about Gwinnett county and Dekalb county. You may want to contact the board of education in multiple counties before starting to look for a home. When you speak to someone at the board of education, they will be able to give you an overview of the services they offer for your son. Hope this helps Hello - We are thinking of relocating to the Atlanta area from Long Island, NY.
