Apple IPod, IPhone, & IPad as Assistive Technology Devices

Friday, March 23, 2012 from 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM

With technology advancing faster than most of us can adapt, it is often

difficult to see the usefulness of the latest gadget. However the iPod Touch,

iPhone and iPad can be used for more than just listening to music or playing

games. They offer great possibilities as assistive technology devices. From sign

language to memory aides, there are applications for almost every need.

Participants will be assigned an iPod Touch to use during the workshop for a

unique hands-on experience. The workshop is geared to beginners however there

will be tips and tricks helpful to even the most advanced user.

Introduction to the iPod Touch and iPad

- We will cover how to choose a device, where to find great apps and other

information to get you started.

Gadgets and Gizmos

- Learn about cool attachments that can make your device more accessible. From a

device that allows you to operate remote control toys from your iPad to

keyguards, we will show you the latest items you can attach or plug into your

device for an enhanced experience.

Getting Started

- Each person will be given an iPod Touch to use during the workshop. We will

start by going through both basic and hidden settings. You will learn how to get

on the internet, set-up an e-mail account, change the restrictions, find hidden

settings, and more.

App Tour

- We will take you on a hands-on tour of our favorite apps. We will explore apps

in the areas of communication, memory aides / prompting, writing, reading, and

much more. There will be a table brimming with the latest cases, stylus pens and
