Guest guest
I am a member of this group and a parent of two kids on the spectrum. In my professional life, i am an SLP and I manage a medical inpatient rehabilitaiton program. I am desperately trying to find placement for one of or curent patients and thought some on this listserv might have ideas: We currenlty have a 31 year old man on our unit with a history of asperger's and bipolar disorder. he was very high functioning (completed college and held a job) until he experienced neuroleptic malignant syndrome (a reaction to changes in his medication schedule). With the syndrome he had seizures and extremely high temperatures - up to 107. Now he presents as severly impaired, impulsive with severe behavior issues and agression. Our facilityis not the right place for him and his family is not capable of caring for him at home. He is not currenlty insured but his father has started the Medicaid application process. He appears to be in need of a residential program in which he can receive psychiatric treatment in a safe environment - a place where he can wander and tinker wtih things and not hurt himself or others. We have contacted the state but so far are being told he doesn't meet their criteria. I have been able to find resources for children but have not found anything for adults at this point. Does anyone know of a residential program that might work? It would need to be locked and have psychiatry available to manage medications. Thanks so much for any help you can give! This is a very sad situation and we want to find a safe, appropriate placement for this young man. andi
