Hey Everyone!

Our office is cosponsoring an incredible workshop for families who love someone

with a disability, teachers, service providers and folks with disabilities NEXT

week in these South Georgia cities. The workshop is FREE and I can't believe

how few registrations we have - I am asking for a last minute push. If each of

you could send it to 2 people that you know in these cities or driving distance

from these cities- I would be SO appreciative. We presented this workshop in Jan

(3x in other parts of Georgia) and it was very well received. I encourage you

all to share this event- it is free and it is incredible! People who want to

support folks with disabilities to move into the center of the community while

living a good life will find this workshop both practical and inspiring.

This training has been in collaboration with the Delmarva Foundation Georgia

Quality Management System and the Georgia Advocacy Office. The goal of the

training is to assist people in recognizing positive assumptions, principles,

and practices which have proven to be important as a framework for supporting

persons who are or are at risk of being devalued by society.

Description: The purpose of this event is to give participants a practical

introduction to the concept of Social Role Valorization (SRV) and some of its

main elements. SRV is a theory that contains certain positive assumptions,

principles, and practices which have proven to be important as a framework for

supporting persons who are or are at risk of being devalued by society. In

particular, it is designed to help participants understand some of the

devaluation process that society and even human services perpetrate upon

persons. And then to assist participants to understand the power of social roles

to counteract some of the effects of devaluation and to their importance in

assisting people who have been marginalized to have a full and inclusive life.

This concept is vital and part of the foundation needed to create high quality

human services.

Audience: This training is designed Support Coordinators,

Self-Direct Providers/Families and Providers of Developmental Disability

services.

Presenter: The training will be conducted by Darcy Elks with the

Georgia Advocacy Office. Darcy has been a human service provider, trainer,

consultant, evaluator and advocate on behalf of people who are societal devalued

for over 25 years. She has traveled extensively throughout the United States and

in many other countries and worked with a variety of people including persons

who have themselves been marginalized by society, advocates, family members, and

human service providers.
