Guest guest
Gwinnett Masters Special Olympics Bocce invites you to our annual Barbeque which will be held on Saturday, July 23rd from 6 to 8 pm at the home of head coaches, Cece and Larry . The address is 1445 Millhaven Drive, in Auburn, which is off of Hwy 124 down from Mill Creek High School. Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, and Chicken will be proved (as well as any other meats that I can get on sale – ha ha), Everyone would need to bring a side dish of their choice, your favorite soft drinks, and lawn chairs. Please RSVP and let us know how many people are coming so that we can prepare. We will have a great time and you can learn to play the game of bocce which is a fun sport involving the tossing of a ball the size of a croquet ball toward a marker ball called a pallino. There are teams, and the closest ball to the pallino scores points. Absolutely NO athletic ability required except to toss the ball on some grass. Anyone can do it! Practices will begin for the Fall Season beginning the following week. We have three different locations and times around the county for your convenience. Practice times are 6:30 to 7:30 pm. On Mondays starting July 25th, we will have practice at Harmony Grover Soccer Complex, Field #3, 119 Harmony Grove Road, in Lilburn. Coach Bill will be the lead coach at that location. On Tuesdays starting July 26, we will have practice at two locations. The first location is at Pierce Park, 55 Hwy 23, in Suwannee. The practice site will be at the community center. When you face the community center, the grass on the left hand side of the building will be where we play. Coach will be leading practices at Pierce. The 2nd Tuesday location will be at our home in Auburn, I will be leading those practices. To participate in Special Olympics you must have a valid medical on file. Most students in the Gwinnett County School System have a valid medical on file for Special Olympics. If you are out of the Gwinnett County School system, you can find the appropriate forms on our web site, Gwinnett Masters Special Olympics, http://www.gmsoga.org . We will have outside competitions for our bocce teams. Some of the competitions will cost money unfortunately, but some do not. Everyone is welcome though to come to practice, learn the game, and play. This includes parents, caregivers, friends and other family members who may wish to become volunteers for our group. You can actually participate in playing the game of bocce with your athlete, or volunteer in many ways. We need as much help as possible, believe me. Gwinnett Masters Special Olympics usually handles athletes ages 16 and above. However, with bocce we work with the school aged teams to help with practices and such as we can. So even if your child is ages 8 to 15, please come out to the barbeque and the practices and try it out. We have many autistic children, teens, and adults on our teams, and we are well versed with the behavior patterns of our special kids. We serve other areas besides Gwinnett County and have athletes participate from not only Gwinnett, but Barrow, Hall, Dekalb, Fulton, Forsyth, and others. For more information please go to http://www.gmsoga.org and click bocce, email me, or call me at . Thanks, CeCe
