who do we send issues to with DAN physicians at ARI?

I don' t know who Christel is talking about (but I'm dying to know) but when you consider prices you sort of need to figure in location as well. I personally think any doctor in the midwest, or TX or FL would be cheaper than a doctor in California or New York for example. In New York everything cost more than most places, rent, malpractice insurance, staff and taxes. I'm sure the same is true for California. With us here in NY, my husband also works in a city that collects city income tax on top of state and federal. With all the deductions my husband has about 40% of his income taken out, its disgusting. . New Yorkers move to Florida all the time because of the lower cost of living and the fact that you don't pay state income tax there. just look at incomes and home prices all over the country. My cousin bought an incredibly huge and gorgeous house in North Carolina for about 1/3 of what the same house would have cost on the same piece of property here in my town. In some parts of Long Island it would cost 10x more. Location is a huge factor.

Are the doctors overprice, yeah probably, but they are also probably priced according to the area they are located in. As far as a doctor not seeing the patients personally, as long as they train and oversee the PAs or NPs in their office I can't see how that's bad. If more kids are getting helped does it matter if they see that particular DAN doctor or someone else in their office who is trained by him?

At my DAN, you can see him or his staff members. You have access to him at anytime you wish to consult with him. Just because you see a PA doesn't mean you can't see him. The rate they charge for the PA is less than the rate to see the DAN specifically. I know that the PA we talk to has had to get back to me on certain things we've discussed because she wanted to review my son's info with the dr himself which is great. When we first called 2 years ago there was atleast a 9 month wait to see the doctor. About a month later we got a call that he had hired and trained a PA and they were starting to book that person. Did I want her or did I want to stay on the 9 month waiting list? No brainer, I wanted to get started ASAP and I took the PA.

Kerrie

We've been looking around for a DAN and I am certainly not "in theknow" - none came to mind when I think over-priced! Please point me inthe right direction to research. Thanks!

I don't know, but the person should be posted here with a heads up to

all....word of mouth is VERY important, esp in our community and for

our kids' sake. When inquiries show up on this site re: doctors people

should be VERY candid and truthful....

it's more a fear for those that DON"T come to groups like this I fear for that will then turn away from DAN and helping their kids because they feel like they got scamed from a con artist trying to get rich but won't even see them theirself........I am simpley put just sick of seeing the same name come up, I incouraged this person to report based on what they told me before names were even mentioned. but WHEN they same was given who they saw I wanted to spit fire as this isn't the first (actually dozens at this point) who have posted negitives in just the last few months.......AHHHHHHH can't we take names off the list so others NOT familiar with DAN don't get turned off. one bad apple in the bunch can spoil SOOO many kids chances to get help and keep the name up there as repituable

where do you live then people can give suggestions for who they think are excellent, I worry about those who don't know about the groups to ask for WHO to go to........if in midwest we LOVE LOVE LOVE Baptist, takes insurence and has discounted prices for those paying cash, he has recovered our son, and his own granddaughter and has a great 20 plus year tract history working with mentally retarded adults even making progress who were told they never would......that is how he stumbled on DAN, actually was doing DAN protical before DAN existed. we now continue to see him for our 2 kids who have bad health even though we live in maine.....we drive once a year and work with him via the net and phone and mail for the rest of the year. when you look at the list, it's really important to look at what there special areas of interest are, AND another important thing to do is look at how many conferences they have been to as well. if they have just gone to one, be leary especially if it was years ago, are they keeping up on the current and new info out, brushing skills up ect....

I think what she means is that many of us have been doing bio-med for years and have not found one supplment that turned our children around like you did with Vitamin A. What you need to understand is that all these children are different and what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another. That DOES NOT mean that we aren't doing anything---just the opposite. maurineChristel King wrote: how so Recovering

it didn't cure my kid of all his autism with vit A, just that one facit, I haven't said anyone wasn't doing anything....I'm so confussed, has someone taken what I said wrong??? I do understand that all our kids are different, I have worked with hundreds of families across the country to help their families and there kids. with all there different issues. DMG also helped with speach in 4 hours. in12 hours we had 8 new words in our non verba;l child from the day before that wasn't getting anything from ST for months. knowing WHAT our kids issues are, what there tests say and then springing from those things and what they are telling and directing us to do, helps to correct what is going wrong in our kids, each of our kids tests are going to read different things. but IF you have high titers from rubeola vit A is well known to help with measels and leaving the body low or void of vit A that is being wasted. that is WHY it worked in our case.

since autism is so complicated, in my sons case that is, I'm always crushing pills, making a mixture, organizing containers, driving long distances, mailing urine labs, feeding (since he will not feed himself all the stuff he needs), changing diapers (since he's not potty-trained), taking care of my other child, etc. need I say more. Of course, it's all worth it, but very tiring. (that's what I meant by - if feels like I'm sprinting a marathon)

Did you fill out a history or detailed for that they require? Did you write a summary about your child?

I think if you filled out a ton of paperwork ahead of time you have to consider the time it takes the doctor to read that and get a mental image of where you child is and what's going on with them.

Personally I don't think its bad. We've seen 2 different DANS, one very well known and one whose name I've seen on these lists maybe once in 3 years. The lesser known guy cost more than the big name guy for the initial appointment.

I sent an email last night also saying people need to consider the location of the doctor. No one responded to my thoughts on that but I think doctors in some parts of the country are going to be more expensive than others, just like gas, electric, food and clothing prices vary from location to location.

Kerrie

Wow...maybe mine is the overpriced one and I didn't even know it. $80

seems incredibly reasonable for any doctor, even just a general

pediatrician. Ours charges $350/hour. I feel like she's expensive,

but she's the only one within a few hours drive and she's the

physician trainer for DAN!. I just wanted to put another price out

there not everyone thought their's was the overpriced DAN! being

spoken of :)

We did not go yet, but $650 is for about 2-3 hrs, not including

testing of course. This is initial fee for new patient, drops down

to about $300 per visit next time I believe. We are seeing another

DAN for a year now, just not happy, we have done a number of tests,

so hopefully some will be okay.
