Dear ,

We mix naturals with Valtrex. Have you had a conversation with your

DAN about increasing Valtrex? We got up to 1000 mg split in 3 doses

and it's still an epic battle with yeast we but could never get above

that dose and keep yeast at bay. Our DAN was trying to get us to 1250

or 1500. We also added Virustop enzyme after we were on Valtrex for

three months, and we'd been on OLE 500 mg per day about 5-6 weeks

prior to starting Valtrex. OLE caused some mild aggression, but I

think we had little true regression once we started Valtrex except

for the week where we had a lot of spots on his forehead where he

spent the whole week with a sweaty head on the couch.

Any thoughts?

Hi ,

MY DAN didn't even want to up him to 500 mg, honestly he was doing

much better on 250 per day, maybe it was less yeast then, who knows.

I am going to ask to try the Nizoral to see. I want to try the OLE

also, cause he seems OCD to me lately. We see Bock next month. You

think Valtex at a higher dose would be better? He is so out of it

and I'm scared to do any more. We are also doing Vit. A drops for

measels titers. Starting to think it is too much for him.

Doses - gosh I wouldn't dare to venture to guess more about doses but

that's the path that was proposed to us. Our kids are about the same

age/size, and you know who we see. Valtrex has been interesting

because the first few days were huge brigtness, and then the yeast

flared up and even with a very strict diet I feel like I've just been

standing with my back up against the door trying to keep yeast out

the whole time, truly however anything that works for us flares

yeast. Knock on wood we've been fever and petit seizure free since we

started Valtrex. But, because of the yeast-beast we've decided we

need to chelate and have done chelation trials beginning at

Thanksgiving and are trying to get on a regular schedule. Hoping it

might help us crack the code. Oh, and then there's Lyme in the mix!

We'll see what happens with that as the next few weeks play out. I

need to hit the hay.

Hope you are well,

best,

Sorry, I know I'm late on this but...Valtrex at 250 mg is too low.  It really isn't doing much and being on a long term low dose may end up causing more harm than good as it can cause virus mutation.  The half life of Valtrex is only a few hours which is why it should be spaced out through the day.  500 mg is the lowest dose that I would go.It sounds like he is having yeast issues with it and I can't believe you aren't already on some form of antifungal while taking it.  In my opinion, you need to change DAN's as this person doesn't seem to understand antiviral therapy very well.  You really need to be antifungals with antivirals.Without knoCherylHi ,MY DAN didn't even want to up him to 500 mg, honestly he was doing much better on 250 per day, maybe it was less yeast then, who knows. I am going to ask to try the Nizoral to see. Cheryl, we are on Amp B, but yeast is bad(at least I think that's

what is going on). She won't give me Nizoral till we go there on

Thurs.(big help that is).

How do you know when to switch antivirals or should we up it first,

in your opinion. Titers came down from 20 to 10 last we checked in

Aug.

TIA

My son is 4 and weighs 40lbs. He has been on 250mg twice daily for 3

months. We have seen great results but should he be on a higher dose

more often? He is also on 40mg of diflucan daily. How often should

we be checking his liver enzymes?

Thanks for the info-

You should be monitoring liver function at least every 2 months.  If he's taking 500 mg, I would talk with your doc before thinking the dose is too low.  500 is a relatively normal dose although it is on the low side of average.  The average dose tends to be 750 mg with some docs going as low as 500 and some going as high as 1000.  If you're seeing great results, I don't think I would worry about it too much but if you are looking to see if it can be better, try talking to your about upping it to 3x daily.  Your doc may or may not go for it and it may not be necessary, many kids do well on 500 mg.CherylMy son is 4 and weighs 40lbs. I would just wait to start a new antifungal.  It may be that the Amp B is just not cutting it and you need to switch.  Until then, you might try adding in some naturals. We never switched antivirals without pulling titers.  We switched from Valtrex because his titers went up (common to first go up and then come down) but never came down.  We went for something like 6 months on Valtrex before switching to Famvir.  After 2 or 3 months on Famvir and no change in titers, we switched to Zovirax.  After a few months on Zovirax his titers came back 1:80 (normal).  We are still on the Zovirax and will probably stay on it for a while to make sure they don't go back up but we will lower the dose from 5 times (yes, you read that right, *5* times a day) to 4.  After that, I don't know what will happen, either we'll end the antivirals or we'll stay on a maintenance dose for a while.  But through all of them, we still maintained good results, even if the titers didn't go down with that particular drug.  Huge gains no matter what the titers said but we still wanted to get the titers down, too.I'm not familiar with the titer numbers you are saying so I can't really comment there.  Which titers are they?  I've never seen them referred to as 20 and 10.  Are they HHV6 and was it 1:20 and 1:10?  If that's the case, you never had high titers.  But not having high titers doesn't seem to me that one doesn't benefit from antivirals.  Many kids have had normal titers and still done very well because we just don't have methods for testing every single virus out there.  A person may not have any of the specific viruses we test for but still be very viral and we just can't test for it.CherylCheryl, we are on Amp B, but yeast is bad(at least I think that's what is going on). Thanks Cheryl, I did try GSE and now adding Biotin in also for

yeast. Our HHV6 titers page say should be less than 10 titer. His

came down from 20 to 10, this is from Quest Labs. I just checked the

paperwork again, it says they were high and out of range.

I'm not familiar with their testing so I really don't know.  If they say they are high then they would know.  If below is 10 and 20 is what you had then it doesn't seem like it was *that* high.  Are you seeing good result with Valtrex?  I would let that be your guide.CherylThanks Cheryl, I did try GSE and now adding Biotin in also for yeast. We saw great stuff in the beginning and it leveled off(on Nystatin),

then switched to Ampho B and more gains and we upped to 500 and not

so much, that's why I was wondering what would happen if you did not

need antivirals any longer and if they could cause problems or again

it could probably just be yeast issues.
