Guest guest
No, Diflucan is not only for kids on Valtrex. DAN doctors have been giving rx antifungals for years to help treat yeast in addition to natural antifungals and dietary interventions. Pediatricians do not know or understand this. I commend you for trying to educate your pediatrician. I gave up long ago and found one w/a holistic slant. We don't discuss our interventions all that much - I only take my kids to him when they are very sick - but he respects our path and doesn't criticize an area he doesn't know much about. Best of all, he leaves the decision to vaccinate or not up to us w/no pressure. The pediatrician said that all kids get ringworm and you don't need diflucan for it. I said that she seems to have an ongoing problem with yeast infections even though she is only 4 which I think is odd. I also said that kids with autism seem to be predisposed to fungal issues. She pretty much just said no, and that since my daughter's stool sample had recently come back as OK, that she was not going to perscribe the Diflucan, and she said that Avery does not get yeast infections, that kids her age just have issues from not wiping properly. What she said seemed reasonable really, only that I don't think she is completely right. Also when I listen to parents advice, such as the GFCF diet, we get results and it seems like the mainstream medical community is so backwards when it comes to treatment. What do you think? Do you think she needs to try diflucan just because she has autism, or is Diflucan something that you guys only recommend to give if the child is also taking Valtrex?Shena(We have an appt with Progressive Pede's in ville next month and supposedly they will be able to help with this stuff...thank goodness.) Guest guest
Can you find a DAN! doctor instead of relying on your pediatrician? Our pediatrician is clueless as well. I hate to generalize, but most are. We just started working with a DAN! and it takes a lot of the guesswork out of it. I know exactly what my little guy needs, or at l least enough to get me started on the biomed. antibiotics for clostridia, MB12 for methylation, antifungals, digestive enzymes. We'll be busy implementing for quite a while and none of these are things his pediatrician ever would have found need for. Trust your instincts. best of luck! kari > > I took my little one in to her pediatrician today for ringworm and said that we would like to > start diflucan as an antifungal. Guest guest
If your daughter has signs of yeast then she needs a script for diflucan or another antifungal unless you choose to use natural anti fungals. Signs of yeast are waking at night, ithchiness, red ring around anus, excess saliva/spitting, waking in the middle of the night and ready to party, spaciness and the grouchies. I would get a DAN doc ASAP. Your daughter is going to need one to recover. Thre pediatricians just do not get it. Some naturals to use till you find a DAN for yeast are garlic, grapefruit seed extract, candex, yeast aide (by kirkman labs). You also need to give probiotics to replace the yeast or bacteria will grow. You need to rotate 3 or 4 good probiotics. Go to www.kirkmanlabs.com or www.klairelabs.com --- Shena wrote: > I took my little one in to her pediatrician today > for ringworm and said that we would like to > start diflucan as an antifungal. Guest guest
Shena, My son had chronic depression (and GI issues I didn't know about)and was on tons of anxiety meds. The supplements helped the depression lift and --bam!-- enter Diflucan and what a difference! Not even a regression and his depression improved enormously. He is almost off his meds. I also put him on Virastop to clear up viruses after about a month. But I was surprised by how well Diflucan worked. I just hope he doesn't regress when it is gone. We are using enzymes and probiotics so I hope that helps. sally > > > > I took my little one in to her pediatrician today for ringworm and > said that we would like to > > start diflucan as an antifungal. Guest guest
We are on a year long wait list to see a DAN dr. Until then we are going to see a ped who I hear does all DAN! protocol except chelation, and we have the appt next month. What she said seemed reasonable really, only > that I don't think she is > completely right. > This is a really uneducated statement as it's not about a " feminine " (vaginal) yeast infection that our children have issues with but rather systemic yeast. When you start using words like " yeast infection " with a reg. ped. this is the first thought any of them generally have and it's really sad. I know they learn more about yeast infections than that in med school - at least, you would think they would. > Also when I listen to parents advice, such as the GFCF diet, we get > results > and it seems like the mainstream medical community is so backwards > when it comes to > treatment. I know you know that but I really think we all need to be more careful about how things are said, especially when you think about how it comes across to a medical professional that has *no* clue about autism. Just look at how your ped reacted when she immediately assumed vaginal yeast infection. We give antifungals because our children tend to have yeast issues which aren't always just because they have autism. My NT son has yeast issues. But no, it's not just for those taking antivirals. You should really try looking for a DAN or at the very least, an open minded ND that takes your insurance.
