Followup on car;s rf emissions

While I stand by my statements about motor vehicles and RF as written earlier, I

do need to come forth and say I had a reading on my trifield meter but I was on

the wrong scale, (Blush)

The RF emission from my car's electrical system is very notieable in the US

..53-1.73mhz A.M. standard broadcast band on a portable radio (not the in-dash),

but it cannot be detected by the Trifield, which is not designed to see RF at

these frequencies.

A trifield will measure rf from 40-2000hz and again from 50mhz to 3ghz, but not

in between.

Hi Dave,

I was sure that my TriField meter covered a lot lower than 50MHz

(some of their models start at 100kHz). Excuuuse me! I made a big

booboo.

So I have no way of measuring the RF from the engine. But since

the car radio isn't even affected I have a feeling it is very low

(like what you may be getting from local radio stations). I just

don't know.

But the E-field and magnetic fields are definitely nonexistent

according to my measurements. And most people that use EMEMs are

not getting as much RF as these other fields (since they aren't

using a spark plug).

This may be OT but during the east coast brownout folks reported a hugh

magnetic field messed with the portable and car radios during the

brownout. Could this be a result of a brownout? I would think

something else was happening.
