Guest guest
Are you doing floortime yourselves? How old is your son. We have done both ABA vs Greenspan's Floor Time We are researching whether to move our son from floor time to ABA. Can anyone tell me the big difference between the two? We have read so much and talked so many people that my head is ready to burst! Thanks! Matt Never miss a thing. Make Yahoo your homepage. Never miss a thing. Make Yahoo your homepage. Make Yahoo your homepage. > Hello Matt: My son was a bit young (20 mos) when his private OT originally introduced Floortime into therapy. He is now responding to it, but I believe it is b/c he participates in a ABA program. We reside in GA and this program became available through the special needs Pre-K program, which is both federal and state funded. This specific ABA program is geared towards children w/ ASD. The thing that I feel ABA is done for my child is keeping him in a daily routine w/tasks at hand. It is showing my husband and I that he truly can be independent. So, if you can do both, go for it. If you wish to choose, I do suggest ABA. But, again, see if there is a ABA program available through an early intervention program or continued through special needs pre-k. I believe all states are different, so I am just sharing what we have available in the county which I reside in GA. Good luck. Sincerely, Beth
Guest guest
Hi ...I was wondering if the Floortime program was being done by someone coming into your home? I decided to use it with my son when he was 18/m.. first diagnosed. I truly think a parent is so much better doing this on there own. ABA is good to be done by a provider. I read the book " Engaging Autism " by Stanley Greenspan which explains Floortime is great detail and how a parent can use it in every day activities. For us, using this knowledge ( plus a much deeper understanding of exactly what autism is ) has helped my son more than anything. I feel comfortable that when he isnt doing ABA he is still getting proper interaction from us at home and in every day life.Using both is great because it works on ALL areas. Where ABA is much more structured and task oriented ( usually much harder for parents to be the teacher on this type of learning) Floortime helps them with emotions, WANTING to interact ( not for a reward ) and basically lets the child feel confident ( a big problem for ASD children ). Some ABA therapists unfortunatly think ABA is the only way.. But most psycologists, ours included, believe ASD children do much better utilizing more than one. Anyway thats my take on it : ) Re: ABA vs Greenspan's Floor Time >> We are researching whether to move our son from floor time to ABA. Can anyone tell me the big difference between the two? Guest guest
Floor time is largely based on the parents and on consultation with a Floortime professional. As far as I know, no one provides in home service where you get a specific amount of hours a week every week. I may be completely wrong and maybe their are home therapists but I've only know of consultants. You pay a consultant to help you and guide you. There is a Floortime yahoo group that may be of more help.CherylHi ...I was wondering if the Floortime program was being done by someone coming into your home? Guest guest
Btw, I wanted to mention that I *love* Engaging Autism. We modeled our ABA program to look more like Floortime.CherylHi ...I was wondering if the Floortime program was being done by someone coming into your home? Guest guest
There are Floortime therapists in Mass. A good source is the Astra foundation to find providers in Mass. If you go to www.floortime.org there is a list there also. I believe the program is best utilized by parents with help from reading and support. I dont see how a stranger coming into the home can connect the same way as with a parent and that is most important with Floortime Re: ABA vs Greenspan's Floor Time >> We are researching whether to move our son from floor time to ABA. Guest guest
We tried to get our ABA provider to do that.. she was like NO WAY!! We only have one source of ABA in our area. A mix is good if your ABA therapist will oblige Re: ABA vs Greenspan's Floor Time >> We are researching whether to move our son from floor time to ABA.
