WE have upped the probiotic to 2X a day and increased the OLE to three drops 2x a day. How much can I increase the OLE. His stools are still runny and now appear to have a mucous in them. Any words of wisdom on this? Also are there reliable tests that show measles in the system? I had my son's measle titers tested and he had an immunity. Would these test results give me a good indicator of measles in the system, or is it a different test all together? I am intrested in high dose Vit A protocol, but I am also a little concerned of toxicity. His DAN says he heard good things about high dose Vit A but cannot recommend it as he could lose his medical license. Please tell me if I'm wrong...the only way to know for sure if your kid's got measles in the intestines is via biopsy. Thoughtful House is accepting biopsy samples, you can send them in...but, because it's research, you don't get to know if it's pos or neg. Titers are the only way to go...but if your looking to confirm an infection, don't ask your primary care doc--I think only DAN's will touch that with a ten foot pole.

I can't point you to research but I can tell you that OLE makes yeast in my son worse, much worse and I can tell by his yeast symptoms becoming worse. Our DAN was convinced it was die off and told us to use activated charcoal to help mop up the excess yeast floating around in his body. We have used charcoal in the past for this reason very effectively. When we tried it along w/the OLE, it did nothing which said to me it was yeast and not die-off. My opinion (and I believe the opinion of some others on this board) is that if your child has virus issues that OLE (as an antiviral) stirs up yeast similar to how Valtrex can stir up yeast.

ditto...but all the reg docs say son's questionable results (you looked at them chick) are normal soooooo, it's easy to get the titers checked...getting a correct interpretation/treatment requires a different kind of doc!

hi jennifer...

christel told me that if the titers are 10x higher than immune something might be up. we had two titer tests done...one quest and one by enzo. picking up my quest report today...but the tests were not the same.

i'm trying to find out what vaccine they gave me in the hospital after I had my "special fella"...wonder if we got the shots that the pharma cos were trying to dump overseas...i wish i knew then what i know now!!

to add another natural antifungal? If so which would you recommend?

We have GSE but I have avoided it with him because he is phenol

sensitive.

So, a measles titer would indicate current measles infection? My

son's ped did it and I can request a copy "for his school" because it

showed he had developed an immunity to measles. Which is a no

brainer as he received my measles shot via breast milk at 2 days old

plus his MMR. ARGH!

OLE is an antibacteria (which just like an antibotic flares yeast) and an antiviral (which viruses flare yeast) the measels titers would let you know if you have an ongoing infection, you need both IGG and IGM from them in number form not possitive negitives to know the answers to some of this

Natasa,

I don't think it is sweeping to say OLE can cause yeast in "some" kids. As I stated earlier, our DAN recommended it to us as a potent antifungal. My son's yeast die-off and yeasty symptoms are similar so when he started exhibiting them while on OLE, I gave him activated charcoal which always helps him w/die-off symptoms pretty quickly. I tried several times and this did not happen. I removed the OLE, switched to another antifungal and the yeast symptoms faded. I have heard this from many other parents on the boards as well.

My child was given Valtrex very early on, before most DANs (and ours is a very highly respected one) thought Valtrex could cause yeast. To humor me, our DAN put my son on Diflucan for 2 weeks before Valtrex but was taken off of it before starting because our DAN strongly believed yeast was not an issue w/Valtrex. That proved not to be the case for my son. By week 2, my son had full blown giggling, nightwaking, itchy genitals, head banging and kicking/screaming fits round the clock. There was no time for lab work so we treated for yeast and bacteria and in a very short time, his symptoms faded.

I think what some of us are seeing here is a pattern where "some" kids are prone to yeast and/or bacterial flare-ups while on "some" antivirals like Valtrex and OLE. It would be nice to have a study to prove that, but as we know, the autism community is not fortunate enough to benefit from all of the $ being spent on studies and often we have to use our observations, discussions w/other parents, trial and error, deductive reasoning and when possible, lab work, to figure out what is going on.

I still say OLE causes yeast in my son, just as some kids react negatively to folic acid or calcium - not mine but "some". These are not sweeping statements, just educated guesses by a parent w/2 ASD boys who has been doing diet and biomed for 4+ years.

My moment of genius, actually not, it just proves what a doofus I

really am. Activated charcoal to mop up whatever that mess is! I

gave him 2 capsules an hour ago. Hopefully the charcoal will sop up

the mess and it traditionally constipates him. Given the current

diarrhea crisis, perhaps it will even out and he'll finally have a

solid stool for once in several weeks. I am thinking positive!!!!

I buy activated charcoal from Kirkman's. I can't remember the brand but it says it is "oxidized". Not sure what that means but I find that it does not cause constipation like other brands I have used.

Jen...add Zinc and ferritan to the lab tests. Any good poop/pee tests coming down the pike? How sad is this...i'm so excited my minivan (minus a middle bucket seat) is filled with poop boxes!

I see this topic is creating a difference of opinions. At this point

I do not know what is going on. Just for kicks I increased his

dosage of Trienza. He still has a diarrhea but his behaviors are

normalizing, somewhat. He is more engaging and responsive but still

scripting and covering his ears. He has also been less thirsty and

hungry since I started this. Any ideas? His diarrhea is now an

orange color and fluffy, much like yeast, but it also has a lot of

mucus in it, like an infection. He has some yeast symptoms but not

his typical yeast symptoms (head banging, mouthing, night wakings,

and constipation). His stool also smells like rotten eggs. Would

that be indicative of infection or malabsortion? I remember Christel

saying this was an indicator of protein malabsorption. I guess this

is a fairly open ended question as the infection could be a result of

a virus, bacteria, yeast, or floral imbalance.

Below is his typical diet and supplement list.

This is his typical diet:

eggs (could be where the smell is coming from?)

applegate farms hot dogs (chicken, beef or turkey)

ia French Fries with Sea Salt

Buffalo burgers

hamburgers

rice

rice cakes

rice cereal

chiken

turkey

broccolli (only "safe" veggie he will eat)

diluted pear juice

diluted pineapple juice (both fresh pressed)

Supplements:

Therbiotic Complete 1/8 tsp 2X day

Trienza (2 capsules with meals and heavy snacks)

OLE (2 droppers 2X day incr. to 4 2Xa day to fight virus back to 2)

Sorry this is so long. I am pretty intuitive about these things but

this one has me totally stumped. Thanks to everyone who is helping

me out with this.

His DAN wants to have him do a metabolic panel and a CBC. Does

Don't know if this is the case for your son, but for my son if he is or has been bloated and constipated and then I give him veggie's and fruit's to get more fiber in him to move the poop out...it will smell horrific...I think of it like this...it's sitting there spoiling inside of them and then when you move it out it's smelly with lot's of bacteria from sitting, so long inside of them..typically, once the constipation and poop keep moving a couple of day's the smell will leave with it...Hope this ease's your concern...MCT oil would be something good to use during this time just in case it's a bad bacterial issue...I make veggie juice's for him to keep him regular and it seems to also make him look 100% healthier...
