A more balanced look????

They mentioned almost every junk research article out there. I'm surprised

she didn't mention bad mothering or the " extreme male " brain theory as well.

Isn't it interesting that not a single REAL mercury study was listed say uh

like the Palmer study?

A more balanced look at the Joe Barton-autism funding bill

controversy

Stalled autism bill shows funding rift

Advocates want money earmarked, not put in general pot for research

JEANNIE KEVER

Houston Chronicle

November 3, 2006

The Combating Autism Act would dramatically increase research funding, but

in the meantime several potentially important - or just controversial -

findings have been reported:

..Vanderbilt University researchers say they have identified a genetic

mutation that raises the risk of autism and could explain some symptoms.

..Researchers at Baylor College of Medicine discovered that the same gene

plays a role in Prader-Willi syndrome, Angelman syndrome and at least some

cases of autism.

..A 2004 Institute of Medicine study found no association between autism and

the mercury compound formerly used in vaccines but hasn't calmed demands for

more research into a possible link.

..An Israeli study reported that the children of men 40 or older were 5.75

times more likely to have an autism spectrum disorder than children of men

younger than 30.

..Cornell University economists used precipitation rates, cable-television

subscriptions and autism diagnoses to conclude that early-childhood

television viewing could trigger autism in genetically susceptible children.

In labs across the country, the increasingly vocal demands for more research

into the causes and treatment of autism have been a good thing.

Hi ,

Send the writer an email. Kever, Jeannie [ Jeannie.Kever@... ]

If you ask her (nicely) to review the Palmer study and others, I bet she

will. I received a reply from her (she said there " are still too few

answers " ) and she seems open to exploring the issue. We just need to funnel

the info to her.
