Guest guest
I am getting ready to start Valtrex on my child who will be 11 on Thursday. My Dan is new to Valtrex and I need assistance on the dosing. We are planning on starting at 500mg three times a day. We have the MethylB12 Nasal Spray and Diflucan already started. She is also on a probiotic. Does this dosing sound correct and what should I expect at first? Any help would be great! feel free to E-mail me at rphunc85@... Guest guest
1500 mg a day sounds like a good starting point to me. I'm not sure of the dosage for older children but it sounds reasonable. My mother (in her 50's) has shingles right now and she's taking 3000 so 1500 sounds reasonable for an 11 year old. Obviously I'm no doctor so don't take my word as gospel but it sounds good to me.CherylI am getting ready to start Valtrex on my child who will be 11on Thursday. Guest guest
I would start at half that or less and gradually work your way up. My 10yo is 65lb. We started at 250mg 1x per day and worked our way up to 3xper day. If you start at a high dose, you may be in for a very rough time. > > I am getting ready to start Valtrex on my child who will be 11 > on Thursday. Guest guest
Thanks Cheryl, I think we are all guessing at how much but am happy to know people have been dosed way above 1500mg. > > > >> I am getting ready to start Valtrex on my child who will be 11 > >> on Thursday. Guest guest
I backed down to 250mg three times a day. She is 11 and 5'4 " tall and 110 lbs. Does this sound better to start? Thanks for the assistance. She has had constipation and fatique on the dose. Facial redness on cheeks also. Is this normal? > > > > I am getting ready to start Valtrex on my child who will be 11 > > on Thursday.
