Guest guest
If you are concerned about autism-you need to get a medical person to intervene and see if there is a diagnosis that needs to be made. There are DAN doctors in new Jersey. You can go on the internet to Unlockingautism.org and search New Jersey volunteers and they can help you with your needs. Guest guest
Getting sick can get any child to not act normally, especially if it was bad. Guest guest
I think it is too soon to think that the 15 months old is also autistic. In my opinion do not too fast reacting to the change of his behavior while he is sick. Guest guest
Wrong on two things. 15 months is not too soon, and it is very likely that many cases of autism are in fact caused by viral and other infections. But I agree that it could be a temporary change in behaviours, he might normalise once/if he fights off the virus. On the other hand no harm in starting probiotics and OLE. You also may to want to cut out or reduce complex carbs and sugar from his diet until he gets better. Guest guest
I would immediately remove dairy and gluten from his diet and put him on a good Casein/gluten/soy free probiotic. And then I would find a DAN physician to run some tests and give advice. They might, with these symptoms recommend an antiviral/antifungal protocal. It’s good you’re asking questions and being proactive at this stage. Could you tell us whether or not he recently received the MMR? My son received the MMR at 15 months and began viral symptoms. - From: mb12 valtrex [mailto:mb12 valtrex ] On Behalf Of donna schmidt Sent: Sunday, January 13, 2008 11:19 PM To: mb12 valtrex Subject: Re: urgent to stan and all Please help don't know what to do urgent to stan My 15 month old just had a virus is now showing signs of Autism, Hitting his head, falling over on the floor, pushing me away, and is very angry, Please what should i do Real people. Guest guest
Our dear son had a nasty rotovirus at 15 mo, very close to several vax - - MMR + HIB I don't have his file here. Guest guest
Donna in treating my child and reading Luc Schepper's blogs it seems like it might be the measles infection. Did you give him the MMR? If it is the measles, buy Bryonia 30C, will you get it from a health food store or someplace soon enough? If not you can order from Helios Lab in the UK. You can get an express delivery but it might cost more. http://www.helios.co.uk/ Click on Ordering, then Remedies, then B in the box. Go down to Bryonia, pick 30C potency, pick Pills and pick the smallest size (cheapest). 4g will be enough. Take 2 pellets, put them in 4 oz to 6 oz water (if you have a sensitive child you take more water, if not so sensitive use less water). Let it dissolve, then stir and give 1/4 to 1/2 tsp (again depending on sensitivity, give less if the child is very sensitive). You can repeat every 15 minutes even and watch and see. Be careful not to overdose. If he does not respond then its not the measles. I hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi Donna, Don't wait, start with something. I would start with the diet, either GFCF or SCD. Then you can add some vitamins (like a good multi), codliver oil, probiotics, vitamin C and minerals like zinc. Also, start epsom salts baths. This is just a stop-gap measure until you can get a proper diagnosis. The change in diet, and these vitamins at the RDA doses won't hurt your child and may help him. Also, be sure to engage your child by requiring simple responses to things he wants. Like saying or signing for drink, if he wants one. Keep him engaged in this way. Also, you can try some simple sensory exercises with him, such as gently turning circles with him, hanging him upside down, applying pressure and deepish massage to his feet (this works great during a meltdown and is very calming to most children), applying squeezing pressure, like wrapping him tightly in a blanket, brushing him softly with a soft brush. These are a simple things you can do that won't harm him until you can get a diagnosis and tests to see exactly what will work best for your child. --- donna schmidt wrote: > he is well now can eat. Guest guest
> Autism is not caused by a viral infection. I don't think anyone can know this for certain. It has been my experience that both of my children got stomach viruses, and regressed immediately thereafter. I especially noticed sensory problems with my youngest. He was eating normally until he got ill, and would only eat baby food for about 6 mos after he was sick. Many therapies and interventions for autistic children are benign, and IMO it's better to be safe than sorry. ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
And he keeps wanting to lay down on the > floor and shake his head on it and kick hard > surfaces. He presses his head into the floor This may be because he's seeking proprioceptive input. Many of these children have difficulty knowing where there bodies are in space. When they perform sensory seeking behaviors, you would think that what they do would solve their problem. However, according to the excellent OT my son had in early intervention, this doesn't happen, because what they're doing is on a subconscious or brain stem level. You could try joint compressions, applying pressure with the palm of your hand to his head, as well as helping him jump up, then letting him land solidly on his feet. Or just applying pressure to his feet and hands may help. According to my OT there are levels these children go through. If their needs are severe, a more structured routine may be called for where you do things in a sequence. For more aware kids just providing some input for them does the trick. As they progress, they will eventually be able to meet their own sensory needs. All of this stuff is soooo easy and doesn't take to long to do. As I've mentioned my son is a picky eater, due to his aversion to certain textures. I can try to get him to eat something with no luck, then do this simple sensory thing to him (sweep across his upper palate three times, then press his bottom teeth twice) and he'll try the food. I swear, it works every time. Kim ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Never miss a thing. Guest guest
I don't think it's accurate to say > that autism isn't caused > by viral infection as I believe it most > certainly can be a trigger. > Yes Cheryl, I agree with you. I don't think the virus " caused " my son's autism. I know it was the trigger, the thing that pushed them over the edge. I guess it's a fine distinction to make, if not getting the virus would have meant them not becoming autistic though. ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! I recently read an excellent book about enzymes and how they can help those on the spectrum, as well as those with sensory and GI issues. According to the author, who suffered from severe migraines, her son would head bang. She finally realized that he may be doing this because he was having headaches and it alleviated the pain. She tried the headbanging herself and claimed it did help with her pain. Long story short, the entire family went on enzyme therapy, which resolved almost all of their issues. I'm sorry I don't have the title of the book, as I've lent it out. Kim ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Never miss a thing. Guest guest
it would depend on when the symptoms occur. Something needs to provoke the virus from the body and THEN and only THEN do you treat with a homeopathic acute and see the consequent improvement or it will do nothing. This was what looked like measles and a 30C is a safe potency to try to see if it works.
