Guest guest
, My son would pass for just another 14 year old, unless you catch him 5 days after a stomach virus. Because he's not officially on the spectrum he was misdiagnosed by many docs during the first episode of PITAND (ped infection..or illness..triggered autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders). He experiences tics and stimming, anxiety, panic, ocd, stomach cramping, red eyes, flushed cheeks, sleep disruption(an understatement) and a host of other symptoms that we were told (repeatedly) were unrelated to the virus that came and went. It lasted a year when he was 9, then back with a vengence at nearly 12. He suffered through it for a year never diagnosed, then I finally found info on PANDAS/PITAND which eventually lead me to this group. Reading other posts I was certain he had a yeast overgrowth. Once we finally got on board with a DAN! it took an aggressive 45 day run of Diflucan to get the yeast at bay. He tried him on natural antifungals at first but they didn't dent it, taking the edge off and getting his gut under control took the pharmaceuticals. We tried antivirals once early on and he crashed horribly. I don't think his gut was healed enough to tolerate the regression. We're trying it again over the summer. On a day to day basis, we rotate natural antifungals. It's flu season though and even though he hasn't caught anything outright, I can tell when his body's fighting something off. Small scale behaviors like what we've seen before. Maybe this isn't the time for OLE for your son given all of the other viral assualts he'll have throughout the winter months? I do think our viral kids need that therapy but I've come to think that there are certain times that may be better for that than others. Antifungals made such a difference in my son and we had tried everything allopathic medicine had to offer. Best wishes to you.
