Guest guest
Hi Deanna, We did SCD cold turkey. We aren't on Valtrex yet but my son was having horrible BM and he had a very inflammed gut, one of the worst our DAN doctor had seen. I will tell you it wasn't easy but within two weeks are son was having normal bowel movements - without any supplements except for Kirkman DPP-IV, fish oils, calcium and Super Nu Thera. I know that Super-Nu Thera powder isn't SCD safe but I didn't get that serious about it. After a month on of regular bowel movements we introduced 1 piece of rice bread a day. Other then that he eats meat and vegatables and for fruit he only gets banana's and pears. If he test results come back as his belly still being inflammed I will have to get more serious about SCD. I don't think being on Valtrex should have any negative effects while starting SCD but I am still new at this so I could be wrong. I would just continue on your course of Valtrex. Good luck! Guest guest
Dana, Hi I'm in NW FL and just found out about Dr Zant's office 3 days ago. I've never been to a DAN! (He is a DAN! isn't he?) Anyway, I have been doing all interventions for my Asperger's, ADHD, OCD, Dyslexia, food allergies, sal intolerant, etc 8 y/o son by myself with no dr at all. I was thinking about taking my son to see him, but my money is limited. So, I have to choose wisely and am not interested in seeing a Dr who pushes lots of very expensive treatments. I think maybe a little help and guidance. Do you think he would be a good one to see for that? Guest guest
Deanna: We happened to start the SCD about a month before doing Valtrex so I don't know if I can give that good of advice other than my own opinion, if it were me, I'd start the SCD and continue onward with the Valtrex. I know exactly what behavior you are talking about because my son did the exact same thing. Before starting him on SCD he would only eat rice crackers with cashew butter, GFCF pizzas, corn chips and potato chips so he was carb hounder as well. We've been on SCD for approx. two months and have survived. We had to sort of pass of the intro diet to start, but I plan on revisiting it later one when my son is more accepting of trying new foods. I can't say that I'm seeing dramatic results on SCD, but then again we haven't really followed it to the tee either, but after seeing his microbial OAT I knew it was the right thing to do. His arabinose fungus was high. Just keep in mind that with the SCD you won't always see dramatic results right away and at first you'll see some heeling regressions like both of my kids the first week had a lot of diarrhea, but then I wanted them to eat so I made them pancakes with nut flour and that isn't how you are supposed to follow the diet, but at least we eliminated the illegals and to me that was a step in the right direction. After that first week, their stools for the most part have been formed and with the addition of enzymes their stools don't float anymore. You'll have to keep in mind that you will also see some healing regressions at steps along the way, I've read that you'll see die-off reactions at 2 mo., 5 mo., and 9 mo. so stay strong. Two things that we feel are really helping us while doing Valtrex and SCD at the same time with my daughter is the fact that we are on MB 12 injections every three days and we absolutely love HBOT. Their tummies will be bloated and after HBOT their tummies are flat again. We really think these two therapies have made the die-off reactions much more tolerable. Well I'll quit rambling on, best of luck. > > We've been on Valtrex for a few weeks. We've seen some mild viral die- > off, chapped lips, runny nose etc, slight rash.
