Guest guest
A child with suspected Kawasaki Disease needs to be fully evaluated as this disease can affect the heart and blood vessels. Not all symptoms need be present. You should have him in for a complete workup. Sometimes, although rare, KD can reoccur. It was interesting that after my husbands little brother had the disease, he presented with mild autistic behaviours. Was obsessed with electrical cords, teddy bears, lost social skills with children and began reading soon after recovery from KD. He was three when he had KD. He is in his twenties now and calls himself a computer nerd. He is married now and is truly a lovely person. I always wonder about the relationship with KD and neurological disorders such as ASD. My husbands family suspected the disease was brought on by either the carpet chemicals (they just had their carpets cleaned) or perhaps something viral as everyone else in the house had a cold. Interesting that this disease once again, has male predominance. I suspect KD is viral related, as it is common in Japan where carpets are hardly ever used in the home. Guest guest
Does it look like http://www.lib.uiowa.edu/hardin/md/dermnet/scarlet4.html Have you done an ASO or anti-Dnase to see if strep might be the problem? > > > > Is your child showing symptoms. Guest guest
No sore throat, tongue is slightly red, lymph glands swollen, conjunctivitis red eyes -- and now his sister is sick. No skin peeling this time and fever is mild now - after 2 days of 101-102. He had been on OLE and virastop for the last few months but yeast went bonkers so I stopped OLE and virastop a week ago. I'm inclined to think that whatever virus it is was " brought out of dormancy " . Valtrex was supposed to have been started next week, but I think not. He's a kid with obvious inflammation signs that don't seem to helped by tumeric, enzymes, etc. Anyone want to throw their 2 cents in -- give OLE and virastop again? > > > > > > Is your child showing symptoms. Guest guest
I don't know much about Kawasaki disease. My cousin's son was diagnosed with it as an infant...he's four now and was diagnosed with autism about a year ago. I've been meaning to post on here to ask if anyone knew of a connection between the two, so I'm glad you brought it up. Do doctors even know for sure what causes it? I read somewhere that it might be a virus, which, of course, made me think that the little guy would be a candidate for antiviral therapy. So...if anyone has any advice...please post My own son also has autism, I just haven't focused on the virus thing yet. Thanks, Kari
