Guest guest
It is fine to do the SCD diet w/out medical support. Go to pecanbread.com and join their message board, buy the book, etc. As long as your child is getting enough calories, fats, carbs, etc, the right supplementation and avoiding IGG & IGE food allergies and intolerances (as w/any diet) it is safe. We have tried the GF/CF and had no real change. I have kept my son on it for peace of mind that i'm doing all I can to help him. I have seen a bio medical dr whom I wasn't happy with. I'm wanting to try the SCD diet as I've heard great results from it. Does anyone know if I should do it without medical support? In australia bio medical dr's have long waiting lists and time is precious as you all know. I'm also doing approx. 25hrs of 1 on 1 with my son using an ABA approach. Thanks in anticipation
Guest guest
Get on the waiting list of the DAN of your choice...and while you are waiting do the SCD...find any dr willing to do the FOOD INTOLERANCES TEST and make sure that you pull/do not intro foods that set off the immune system. Get a comprehensive stool analysis and an OATS test so you know wht kind of yeast, bacteria, and parasites youy are up against. DO THE SCD, and if you just canot do it at least do GFCF, but using ONLY SCD legal foods.....we have met all our one year goals in 3 months so far and my son lives on El Pollo Loco chicken drumsticks, spinach juice with some apple and pear in it, the occassional raw carrot and raw peeled apple, and perhaps a few cherries a s a big treat. Not the best diet in the world but the best we can manage with our picky eater and NO STARCHES or CARBS or SUGAR! Big gains for us. We are alo doing the valtrex with Diflucan...but you can lobby for that when your DAN appointement finally comes along...def do the diet first and get the info about the food intolernaces so you will not undermine your own efforts....LOL > > Hi > My son is 3 and 1/2. Guest guest
GFCF helped our son sleep overnight and has improved his stools. I would not take him off GFCF unless previous to the diet he had perfect consistent daily stool, sleeps most of the night and does not get odd rashes (cow milk gave our son rashes). You should also have skin tests done for different types of food by a DAN doctor or allergist to modify diet. > > > > > > Hi > > > My son is 3 and 1/2. Guest guest
Hello, I would keep with the diet even in the absence of obvious improvement. I had my son on GF/CF for 18 months until I was persuaded to go SCD less casein and then WOW! Some things affect certain kids in a more obvious way and others have only subtle improvements. He may be benefiting in ways you are as of yet unaware. We used Diflucan to treat yeast for 3 months and Nystatin for 6 weeks and there was no effect whatsoever. Then the SCD diet caused him to go through a very strong die-off reaction. Then the drugs were able to assist him the bit of yeast he had left. The diet is the first step. I also followed www.Pecanbread.com but it was very daunting the first week. Be patient, breathe out, and stick with it. I know a super nice doctor who is not "officially" a DAN! doctor but who has a strong interest in autism and treats autistic kids. Do you happen to live anywhere near Sydney? Let me know if you would like his contact info. Stéphanie B.chrissychrissy74 wrote: HiMy son is 3 and 1/2. We have tried the GF/CF and had no real change. I'd love to know because we travel to Sydney once a month for our son anyway. Thankyou for your advice. Look forward to hearing back.
