Guest guest
It should pass within a few days but it really does make one feel pretty icky. Are you removing the blue dye?CherylHello,I am new to this board and am starting my son (4) on Valtrex. We started diflucan a couple of weeks ago and started valtrex today with 125 mg to start. Within a 1/2 hour of taking the first dose, he threw up. I had heard that it was horrible tasting so I tried a small dose to see how it was in the pear juice I mixed it in and syringed it in with. My stomach is upset as well.Has anyone else had this happen? Will it pass or can some kids not tolerate valtrex. Thanks for any insights. Guest guest
Thank you for the reply Cheryl. I am glad to hear that the nausea will pass. I should have clarified that I did remove the blue dye and cut the tablet (500 mg) into 4 but then I gave his dose uncrushed in a spoonful of yogurt which he threw up within 30 minutes. I tried the crushed version in pear juice and felt a little nauseous. Today, I gave half the dosage of yesterday but crushed in pear juice and he kept it down. Then at midday, I gave 125 mg again crushed and that stayed down okay again. I defitely learned that crushing is important since we don't have the coating. Thanks again. I look forward to the craziness the next few weeks could bring. > > > Hello, > > > > I am new to this board and am starting my son (4) on Valtrex. > > We started diflucan a couple of weeks ago and started valtrex today > > with 125 mg to start. Guest guest
Has the nausea and vomiting passed? If it doesn't, you may need to switch antivirals, he may not be able to tolerate it. If it doesn't pass soon, consider switching to Famvir or Zovirax. If it has passed, yay!CherylThank you for the reply Cheryl. I am glad to hear that the nausea will pass. Guest guest
Hi Cheryl, Thanks again for your message. I am going to do a quick search on " die off " to get an idea of what you mean. Is it a viral die off or yeast or a combo. I will definitely be ramping the valtrex up to the 250 mg/3x/day as soon as I can. Thanks, > > It sounds like a die off rash so I wouldn't be too concerned just > yet. If it doesn't go away within a week or so then I would wonder > if he's tolerating the valtrex.
