pregnant and want to leave NJ

Hi,Our 7 yr old has Aspberger's and we've been doing biomed for about a year with great results. I just found out I'm pregnant with our 3rd. Yikes!! We live in NJ where the governor just passed 5 new mandatory vaccines to be given to children before they enter preschool. My husband and I are seriously thinking about moving! My question is can anyone recommend a state/town that fits the following requirements: good regular education, good special ed, good/progressive health care where I can find a pediatrician who will listen to our concerns about vaccinations, good autism services (OT, speech, social skills). We're open to all suggestions! We're thinking about Charlotte, NC. Thanks, Betsy

Do you need to stay on the east coast?? Sacramento is a great area for all that you mentioned--sac city funds almost everything. My pediatrician said, if she were me, she wouldn't get my new baby vaccinated either. Lots of holistic practitioners, close to great bay-area DANs. Luke gets 40 hours of ABA funded by the city. JetBlue flies direct from JFK to Sacramento so my parents come out all the time--such an easy flight! Beth Hanagan wrote: The Triangle area is very good. Betsy,

I know a great psychologist/ABA therapist in the Charlotte area. She

left my area for the Lake Norman Autism Clinic, which is just north of

Charlotte. She would probably have good contacts on the other services

you were looking for. She was always more than supportive of our

choice to take the biomedical route. If you decide on that area, let

me know and I'll track her down for you :)

I would definitely recommend the L.A. are, since T.A.C.A is stationed

there. I personally live here. My school district in downtown

Sacramento, CA is very cooperative, and the mind institute is down the

street from my house, I am currently moving across the street, but my

house will be for rent in 4-5 months, oh yea, the HBOT clinic, is .05

miles away as well, good place for a single mom of an autistic little

boy- other school districts outside of sac are a bit late to

cooperate, but for some reason, mine is so awesome, Sue Raskey is in

charge of the decisions, and putts a high importance on intervention

early on, and making sure the child gets what he/she needs. Thanks to

her, my son gets O.T., Speech, 20 hrs/ABA in home, she really helped

us out, and there was an awesome team that assessed him, they advise

her, and they are under no pressure to exaggerate, because she lets

them do their jobs. Pleas contact me if you have any questions- Mattea

Overall, Mass has very goos services for speial needs

kids. Of course it depends on the town and the

services you need. We live in Southboro, MA and the

services are pretty good. You may want to join the

yahoo group " biomedheads " as there are a lot of local

MA parents who can help you.

I agree California has great services and has all exemptions for vaccinations. They are high end on health, research and doctors of all kinds. There laws are strict on bringing toxic poisons in too. Great state for that but big too.

I live in Worcester, MA ...and as far as preschool & K-6 school goes,

the services, teachers, therapists, aides, etc are EXCELLENT! I'm

not sure about the older grades, though...

Good Luck,

Harry

PS You are also within a 45 minute drive of Boston Children's

Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital for pediatric

neurologists...
