Guest guest
I have brought this up before but wanted to make mention of it again. When we do a fasting lipid panel it puts everyone on the same plain for comparison purposes. But how often do people go 12 hours without eating? Not to often. Some folks never. As soon as you eat a meal, your lipid counts will go up. That's normal. That makes me ask the question, does a fasting lipid panel represent reality? It would be impractical to graph a person's real time lipids, drawing blood every hour for 8 hours like a glucose tolerance test. But hey, that is what it would take to know what a person's real time lipids look like. Then what would you do with the data since there is nothing to compare it with cause nobody else does this? People walk around saying they know their numbers. They know their fasting numbers. Are they fasting right now? No. So in reality, they have no clue what their lipid panel looks like right now.
