Guest guest
The way the system works is they test the meds for 3-6 months and mostly on animals because using humans experimentation is prohibited - too short a time to really see the side effects. I had a medical provider tell me that the REAL way they find out what the side effects (and benefits) of any medication is the " after market research " i.e. when there is a new medication out and our doctor prescribes it and we report side effects etc that is, without knowing it, we are the guinea pigs! That being said, the so called preventative effects of statins (which between you and me, I really question) are all supposition i.e. it goes like this - if people have a lower cholesterol level, they might have a slightly less chance of a heart attack. Of course, a big factor which is NOT taken in consideration is that the reason they might have a less chance of heart attack is because a naturally lower cholesterol level might indicate a healthy lifestyle of making good food choices and regular exercise. Then in fact, it would be the lifestyle and not the cholesterol level which is determining the health factor. Or the cholesterol level is merely an indicator of a healthy lifestyle. And they will admit that there is no proof whatsoever, that " artificially " lowering the cholesterol level is heart protective. But it sounds good and if they can sell a drug, they will. They make very little profit on old drugs and therefore, are under pressure to come up with new drugs which can be under patent and thus expensive (until they go generic). One CEO of a European pharmaceutical admitted that any medication they sell is less than 30% effective.Medical providers seldom have the time or inclination to do real research so they do their " continuing education " in these drug company seminars (usually done at a free dinner) which of course, are selling the latest drug.... Thus, many medical providers are not aware of the risks of statin drugs either, I've found.-- best,Suehttp://healthread.net Weight loss video:
