Guest guest
I don't see a doctor for my cholesterol. I no longer have it measured. Why do you think a level of "250+" is sufficiently "elevated" as to require lowering? Have you considered your system may actually be producing the level of cholesterol it needs, and that no chemical intervention is required?Dave Turgeon. Guest guest
Dave, your question is the toughest for patient to answer, due to the constant badgering by MD’s, yet there is a world of information, such as this site, that can be used to develop an understanding of the issues. Insisting on comprehensive testing to determine that all systems are functioning within range is a good start to building a position that can be used to “just say no to statins”.Mike From: TakingLipitorAndHateIt [mailto:TakingLipitorAndHateIt ] On Behalf Of davidturgeonSent: Saturday, November 12, 2011 8:11 PMTo: TakingLipitorAndHateIt Cc: davidturgeonSubject: Re: Statin and muscle damage I don't see a doctor for my cholesterol. Guest guest
Trilipix just took a hard blow when a study which showed it offered no additional protection from heart attacks and strokes, despite its ability to alter blood lipids.I have come to the personal conclusion that artificially induced changes in blood lipids do not prevent heart disease, heart attacks or strokes. But thats just my personal view.If a female has elevated triglycerides, the first thing I would check is thyroid function. I would make sure there is sufficient blood levels of both T4 and T3 thyroid hormone. If that proved to be good, I would look in other directions, but I would start there.Elimination of sugars and refined carbohydrates would be the dietary approach.Bobby Alternate email: marooned@...Bobby- Your Caribbean Travel Plannerwww.pinkystravel.com International Destinations, Resorts, Vacation PackagesPhilippine Destination SpecialistTo: TakingLipitorAndHateIt Sent: Sunday, November 13, 2011 11:27 AMSubject: RE: Statin and muscle damage What is everyones’ views on triglyceride levels? Guest guest
I guess my point is you shouldn't need to "build a position" as to whether or not you take a certain drug. It's my body, so it's my decision, and mine alone, as to what I place in it. No doctor is going to force feed you pills. Just tell her/him, "I will not take any statin or cholesterol lowering drug -- period."Dave Turgeon. Guest guest
, you should read post #10025 about an FDA warning about Trilipix in combined use with simvastatin (generic for Zocor.) It did not lower the risk for cardiac events. Isn't the reason we are supposed to take these drugs in the first place? The article in the post does reference the use of Trilipix in type 2 diabetics, but I think the warning should be considered by non-diabetics as well. Guest guest
, in the last few years, my triglycerides were up to 183 at the highest level. I'm not sure if that is when I was taking Zocor or after I quit the statin. I am a type 2 diabetic and I am constantly trying to reduce my levels of refined carbs, sugars, etc. in order to control my blood sugar levels. I have been off statins for about 3 years and my last triglyceride level is 118. I lowered it without a statin or a drug like Trilipix. But, my doctor is still bugging me about my LDL, which is 142. I tried to take Pravastatin, an older statin, for 2 weeks in September thinking that an older drug might no be as strong. Many of my previous areas of muscle pain flaired up again. I do take CoQ10 daily and Vitamin D (when I remember). Others here have other things that they take that have helped them. Unfortunately I am still pretty much exercise intolerant from the statin, anything I do too much of causes soreness for days, so that is not a treatment option for me at this time. Every physical activity has to be done carefully, and lightly, including household chores. Don't take Trilipix or any statin. This whole cholesterol thing is a scam, I am sure, we all know it here from experience. Guest guest
Thanks for the info Connie. I take 100 mg of Policosinol a day in addition to Fish Oil. Re: Statin and muscle damage , in the last few years, my triglycerides were up to 183 at the highest level.
