Guest guest
Hi Mike, That looks like an excellent list on labwork. Keep in mind I'm no expert. But when I think of labwork, I think in terms of a male over 50. That said, I feel its important for guys over 50 to test for testosterone to estrogen. Its the ratio of these hormones that effects energy, mood, and sexual function. Since all these hormones are made from cholesterol, statin drugs could come into play with disrupting them, as several people have reported their hormones trashed after a bad experience with cholesterol lowering drugs. For guys, the magic formula is the ratio of Testosterone to Estadiol (E2). A young man in his 20's would have a ratio of T/E2 of around 25/1, maybe even 30/1.But as us guys age, testosterone production gradually declines. As we put weight on the mid section thru the years, the fat cells is where the conversion of testosterone to Estradiol happens, increasing this estrogen level as testosterone declines. The end result is a narrowing margin between Testosterone and Estadiol. The physical characteristics that follow are difficulty losing weight in the mid section, man boobs, loss of sex drive, loss of concentration, Loss of muscle mass. Fatigue. (We have all heard the complaint of ED after taking a statin.)A guy in his 50's could have sufficient testosterone levels, but if his estrogen levels climb, this narrows the margin between the two, and the symptoms described above could still take place. If testosterone levels plummet faster than E2 levels, this can invert the two hormones causing feminization. E2 is the hormone responsible for giving women their female characteristics. This is why I believe manboobs have been reported to result after taking statins. So yes, I believe hormones is vital on a panel for someone suffering muscle problems after a statin. I wish I understood female hormones. I never studied it. It gets more complex.
