I upgraded from v6 to v8 of Dragon 2 years ago( I believe v9 is the current). There was a significant improvement in recognition... worth the cost of the upgrade. When v10 comes out, I'll probably do it again.

I am looking for advice on dictation software. I am currently using Dragon NaturallySpeaking Medical version seven. I am beginning to have more and more errors with it and it seems to miss some dictation. I have been looking for the upgrade and it seems to be between $400 and $600. Do other people use the regular version (which is much cheaper) or the medical version. Has anyone upgraded from a lower version 2 versions in and is it worth the money. My other thought is that perhaps I could use better hardware and I wonder if there is any suggestions about microphone's for dictating. I am currently using a simple headset from RadioShack. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A cheap headset microphone is not the way to go.

1. Dragon 9 is essential- much better than 8 which was much better than 7. I think everyone who has tried 9 feels it's worth the cost. Prefered is the cheapest ( I forget if it's $100 or $200) and works well and has a lot of medical words in it. I use an aftermarket product from TrigramTech that adds medical vocabulary for about $300- so total about 1/2 the cost of Dragon Medical. It works well, but I'm not sure it's worth the $300 cost since a lot of medical words come with the basic Preferred. I would try Preferred first and, if you want the vocabulary, add it later. 2. The microphone is key. A good one costs at least $60 or so. I use the ANC 700, but there are other good ones. Read the emicrophone website, there are lots of ideas. Bad microphone = poor recognition 3. In practice I can type 99213s and 4s faster than I can

dictate and do the corrections, but dictation is great for first visits and letters, and it is less fatiguing.Graham Chiu wrote: some reviews http://www.emrupdate.com/forums/t/12182.aspx on micsOn Jan 4, 2008 1:21 PM, Graham Chiu <compkarorigmail> wrote:> A cheap headset microphone is not the way to go.>>> On Jan 4, 2008 12:59 PM, <iwarshaw> wrote:> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> > I upgraded from v6 to v8 of Dragon 2 years ago( I believe v9 is the> > current).
