But why not? Tufte is really the master of information

display. I'd love a dashboard like this that would be flexible in

display - i.e. different issues could rise to the front, others could

fall to the background based on predictable parameters. Tufte takes

the whole idea of " charting " to a new level with this

display.

not so useful for chronic care though ...

Gordon, when I first saw this dashboard a couple of years ago, I

thought it was very exciting and wondered if I could ever get

something similar for my own use. But when I sat down and thought

about an implementation, I realized that I was only really interested

in the first time zone ( the one year before admission ), whereas that

time zone existed only as a backdrop to the acute data ( the second

and third time zones ) which was the primary interest for those

looking at acute care.

Also, having these extra time zones would make the programming quite

complex for someone like myself who hadn't done any math since high

school.

Additionally I wanted to be able to look at the actual data, and I

wanted a longer time period than one year.

I then came across another widget that Tufte had created which seemed

much more appropriate for chronic care, and I created a hybrid from

that.

When I get a chance, I'll post a video.

I ran out of time to create the video .. perhaps another less busy day.

In the meantime, if you're interested to see my solution, see

http://synapsedirect.com/forums/thread/3020.aspx

Basically I have a tab that contains 36 sparklines ( another invention

from Prof Tufte ) that shows in a word sized graph all the results for

a particular parameter. Each patient can track different results in

each graph.

The gray bar that is shown inside the graph represents the normal range ....

Clicking on a graph brings up a larger version of the same with the

actual data visible in another table.

I find it very useful to get a birds eye view of all the measurable

parameters on my chronic care patients

This is my simpler dashboard attempt
