Guest guest
MT, I am paying $119.42 for 3 lines (2 phone/1fax). I pay them another $54 dollars a month for 2 static IP addresses and internet. Of note: I was actually paying more, but when I resigned up with them, they lowered their prices. FYI, I am in Newport News. Phone Hi everyone I am going solo in March in the state of VA. Could somebody tell me how much approx do u pay for ur office phone and fax. is there any cheap way out. Verizon in my area is asking for two lines - unlimited local and long distance about 104$ ( 4$ for call forwarding after office hrs) plus tax. Then imagine internet!!!!!!!! Guest guest
Sorry for the addition: A lot of people are having luck with VOIP and using things like one box. Clemensen can speak more intelligently on this. J Phone Hi everyone I am going solo in March in the state of VA. Guest guest
How exciting that you are getting close. It gets down to the nitty gritty now. FAX: I use an electronic fax, which makes it easier because faxes come into email and if is something that needs to go into the chart, you don't have to scan it. You can get a local or toll-free number through any of a number of services. Compare prices on the internet for your estimated usage. I use FaxMicro which is $4.95 a month plus 5 cents a page outgoing, incoming free. I think if I prepaid for a year, I got a month or two free. PHONE: I have an office phone line through cable which I forward to my cell if there is no answer. For comparison, first line with is $9.99 but FCC access of 4.38 = $14.37; second line is $9.99, call forwarding no answer $2; Active Lifestyle package $6.95 (required to get a $10 discount on the cable or some crazy thing), plus fees = $23.66; total phone is about $38. Their long distance isn't cheap, so I use my cell for long distance calls. CABLE INTERNET: high speed with powerboost: $41.95/month I practice out of a office in my home, so the cable internet is shared with family use and my first phone line is our home phone. Hope that gives you an idea. Sharon Irvine, CA I use At 02:23 PM 1/17/2008, you wrote: Hi everyone I am going solo in March in the state of VA. Guest guest
VoIP is neat, but VoIP is about long distance, not local service, IMHO. A Verizon phone line is $20. Another $35 if you want unlimited long distance (includes local) $20 if you want to call, “local” long distance (40 minute drive away let us say) $16 for unlimited local calls. Otherwise you will pay 9 cents per call. Doctors live and die by their fax machine. Period. If you are a geek, get distinctive ring ($3), instead of paying $20 more dollars for a second line. A fax modem in your computer will understand distinctive ring. So what I recommend: Line+distinct ring+unlimited local calls = $40 a month. You gonna make 200 calls in a month? Then do not pay for unlimited local calls. Pay the 9 cents. Now you are down to $25 and you will pay $10-$20 in tolls for local calls. Doctor offices DO NOT make long distance phone calls. Use your cell phone for those. (OK so I am skipping taxes in all my estimates. So did Verizon, when they LIED TO YOU and said it will be only $104/month) All this stuff can be bought over time. We started with 2 phone lines, and then added the packages as usage rose. With a 5 person office, we survive on 3 phone lines. One of which is a fax! But because we bought a PBX on Ebay, all lines are utilized fully. One line is all you can eat long distance Another line is all you can eat local calls. The other line, I complain to the staff, if they make more than $10 a month in outbound calls on it. That third line is the FAX line. Which I dial back into the office, to get online internet at night! -tom From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Malar Anbarasan Sent: Thursday, January 17, 2008 5:24 PM To: Subject: Phone Hi everyone I am going solo in March in the state of VA. Guest guest
I use Vonage and except for a few quirks, have been happy. One could argue that VOIP has other features for the flat rate beyond the long distance advantage. Many of the land line plans require you to pay extra for features like call forwarding, voicemail, etc. Vonage has the following as part of the flat rate. http://www.vonage.com/features.php?lid=nav_features Included Features Caller ID with Name Call Waiting Voicemail Plus® Call Transfer Enhanced Call Forwarding 3-Way Calling Caller ID Block Call Return Do Not Disturb Anonymous Call Block Repeat Dialing Vonage Fax International & Directory Assistance Block Call Hunt Ring Lists Vonage Access Bandwidth Saver® Vonage Me Network Availability Number® Click-2-Call® Vonage Online Account 211 Dialing 311 Dialing 411 Enhanced Dialing 511 Traveler Information 811 Dialing 1-700-WEATHER 1-700-GETNEWS 1-700-GREETINGSAdd-On Features Vonage Visual VoicemailSM Add a Line Fax Line Virtual Number Toll Free Plus® Vonage SoftPhone®Benefits of VoIP Number for Life Great International Rates Money-Back Guarantee 24/7 Support Move Your Number Refer-A-Friend® Calls to Canada, Puerto Rico and Europe Professional Installation Annual Pre-pay Area Code Selection In-Network Calls Developer Center No kick backs from Vonage, just a reasonably happy customer. Guest guest
Where I am all calls are toll charged. My first month out my bill was about $330. (I split a phone 50/50 with another Dr who has a full time triage MA who sits on the phone all day). I looked into Vonage but was leary on reliability issues. I am about to look for a better alternative. I am pained to think that I must pay this amount every month.Malar Anbarasan wrote: Hi everyone I am going solo in March in the state of VA. Guest guest
Why not get both? If the VOIP phone is out of service, then switch to using your landline. You should save a considerable sum. I have VOIP for my main line, and a landline for fax which I can use for voice if the VOIP service is not available ( due to internet outages ). > > > > > > > Where I am all calls are toll charged.
