Guest guest
Hello all, I apologize for my delay in replying to this thread, but I just wanted to encourage all of you who are interested in improving the way our “health care system” (in quotes because as we all know, it’s not so successful at actually achieving health for the vast majority of Americans) to take a look at the Physicians Proposal for National Health Insurance put forth by Physicians for a National Health Program (http://www.pnhp.org). This is not socialized medicine, but a single-payer system that aims to vastly reduce the administrative overhead currently wasted in our current system with multiple for-profit insurers. Essentially, when you take a look at the numbers, we (private individuals, federal & state governments, and employers) are already paying for universal care; we’re just not getting it. In any case, it’s certainly not the only answer to our broken health care system (doesn’t directly address the underfunding of primary care, or the vast amount of debt with which the typical medical student graduates, for example), but it’s an interesting start.
