Not Significant vs Insignificant --> was RE: Socialism

Since it's philosophical Friday. :-)

I always interpreted it slightly differently.

I felt the monks were saying we aren't significant...not that we are insignificant.

Subtle twist, I suppose, but I think some of the thought (IMHO) was that we humans think it is about Us, Us, Us and Me, Me, Me. That humans are the most important/significant thing on the planet and all things should work toward making humans happy, comfortable, etc.

But perhaps we aren't as significant as we think and we should put things in a little more perspective -- philosophically speaking, of course.

Just my thoughts...for $0.02 they can be yours. Paypal accepted.

The moment one accepts insignificance is the first step in the long road to reduce dukkha and maybe understand the concept of Samsara.

No one is insignificant! Certainly not your children, and not the wonderful people on the listserv.Philosophy according to Jacques
