How do you stay motivated for 40 minutes on a stationary bike? I've discovered

that 10 minutes on a train is much tougher than even an HOUR out on the road.

Problem is, it's still too cold in Michigan to get out and ride in the

morning...

Hi Eldred,

My 46 " LCD TV helps a lot! :-) Sometimes I'll listen to music. But 95% of the

time, I watch TV while I bike.

Watch a TV program (tape a favorite program) or rent a video or download a

program to listen to or read a book!

See my response to Yuna. When I was in Chicago, the stationary bike had an LCD

screen on it. So I'm guessing it kept me involved enough to not feel the stress

of the exercise? My small TV across the room doesn't seem to have the same

effect. I'll try moving my trainer closer and see if that helps.

You have to try out different things till u find something that is 'bearable'. I

love reading on an exercise bike but moving it closer to the tv would definitely

help. I also keep my MP3 full of upbeat music (downloaded from iTunes). And a TV

guide by the treadmill. Mostly though I schedule my workouts. For example, today

I will ride my exercise bike at 7 and I just go and do it. My exercise clothes

are laid out, tv program picked out and I just do it. Sort of like an

appointment that cannot be missed. I often set small goals if I know I'll be

tired and more often than not surpass them. :-)

Hope this helps!

No problem. I know that exercise will probably benefit me in multiple ways. I

just need to find a way to make it easy and do-able. My best chance is to do it

in the morning, but I'd have to get up much earlier to do so. Since I'm already

sleep-deprived, that isn't very easy... I'm still trying to trick myself into

doing it.

One trick I use is to do something I love to do but only allow myself

to do it while exercising! If there is a new podcast I want to listen

to or new music I've downloaded or a tv show I enjoy watching, I get

to listen or watch ONLY if I do it while I'm on the treadmill, bike or

elliptical. Before I know it, an hour has passed and I have done

something good for me and something pleasurable I would have done

anyway. Healthy multitasking, I call it! Believe it or not, I

actually start looking forward to getting on a machine so I can escape

into another world.

Make it fun for you and you will be amazed how quickly your body

craves it!

I so agree! I try to find something that will interest me WHILE I'm on the

treadmill or the exercise bike. It's sth to look forward to!

Constance, I have often replied to your messages but since you never respond to

them I thought you either don't read them or have nothing to say in reply to

mine. I too often feel disappointed because I post messages or questions and

never get a response.

I too find that some of my messages get lost!

I have noticed a big change in you Constance over the last 6 months and I'm

very happy for you!! You are more peaceful, taking care of yourself inside and

out.

Hugs to everyone

Did you get the personal email I sent you or did you get the one I posted to the

group. I am very frustrated right now. I know I don't respond to everything but

I try to. Just this wed I sent an email that I had a comment or praise or

something for everyone that had responded to sent emails to this group and not

one person even said thank you or anything. I am trying to figure this out. So I

am sending this email to the group first and then to you personally.

Hugs and Positive thoughts from Constance
