Guest guest
There were cookies setting out at work this morning. They looked good, I wanted a cookie so I had a cookie. But then, I wanted to go back and get another cookie. Here is how my inner conversation went: " I want another cookie " " Why do you want another cookie? " " Because it was good " " You're right, it was good. But don't you think you're co-workers also want to have a cookie? " " Yes, but then they might eat all the cookies and I won't get another one " " Well, you know where the bakery is that the cookies come from, right? " " Yes, I do. It's right here in town. " " Okay then, if the cookies get eaten you can always go buy a cookie if you really want one " " But these cookies are free! " " Did you suddenly come upon hard times that you wouldn't be able to find the money to buy one cookie? " " No. " " So, later on, if you still want that cookie then go to the bakery and buy it. But for now, leave it be. You're not hungry. You were able to have one cookie and enjoy it. Just let it go " " Okay " I'm sorry if this is rambling and drawn out, but this is the conversation I need to have with myself. And it actually worked this time. My desire for that other cookie is gone.
