Guest guest
I have not been keeping up with responding to the posts on IOWL. However, I have been reading and I do have some comments, feedback, and checkins that I want to post. But not right now!!! Unfortunately I must make dinner for the family. But....I did just want to respond briefly to Avie and the conversation about eating disorders, causes, and therpaists. I do believe that a good therapist with whom you connect can be a godsend and that your ability to have personal insight and create change that is long lasting can be dramtically improved with the support of a good therapist.  However, it may take a while to find the right one for you. Like others here part of my personal journey has been through the anorexia tunnel and it is a tunnel that seems to always be a choice on the road for me and sometimes I have ended up there without even knowing I was choosing that road but helpless to find another path.  However, I think that tunnell is like all the others here that involve food....It is being used to help us travel as comfortably and possible and that is where we each need to start our journey. What is the gift....What is it we get from that path....tough questions I know... My therapist uses a lot of the same ideas as and so her program works right with what I am working on.  I think that huge gains can be made on your own using the techniques in IOWL and other good books. I have a number of recommendations I could throw out if anyone is interested. Avie I hope that you are working with a counselor and that you do not believe the lie that the way you feel in your body is the cause of your unhappiness. More is going on. What is it?   Livingston ________________________________ To: insideoutweightloss Sent: Tue, June 21, 2011 10:42:53 AM Subject: IOWL: ...  hi everyone! i am just bingeing a lot lately... pretty much every other day (tho yesterday and already today). to be honest, i'm not doing much IOWL " work " ... i dont know what i'm doing.. apparently nothing. i feel so bloated, etc and am just not happy. i need to change NOW because i'm going crazy. thanks, Avie -- Avie Linden University of Michigan - Anthropology Program in the Environment, History of Art
Guest guest
Avie, I totally understand the frustrations you are feeling now, but what has helped me tremendously on an emotional level is being on the same side as that " inner critic " . Last night, I binged and this morning, my usual mental routine is to beat myself up. The moment I started thinking negative thoughts though, I had my inner critic tell me that it was okay and to try and figure out what I could learn from it. Then, I did a re-do. mentioned it in one of her IOWL episodes (sorry I can't recall off the top of my head which one), about working with that critic/being/other self, whatever you wanna call it, instead of working against it. She used the analogy of tug-of-war, where both opposing teams are fighting so hard against each other that little progress is ever made. I know this may not seem significant now, but just imagine the progress we will make if we keep doing this and keep thinking this way. We are going to get there girl!! We are making continuous improvement. I know some days are tough, but focus on how you can make the rest of this day healthy. with love, angela > > I have not been keeping up with responding to the posts on IOWL. However, I > have been reading and I do have some comments, feedback, and checkins that I > want to post. But not right now!!! Unfortunately I must make dinner for the > family. But....I did just want to respond briefly to Avie and the conversation > about eating disorders, causes, and therpaists. > > > I do believe that a good therapist with whom you connect can be a godsend and > that your ability to have personal insight and create change that is long > lasting can be dramtically improved with the support of a good > therapist.  However, it may take a while to find the right one for you. Like > others here part of my personal journey has been through the anorexia tunnel and > it is a tunnel that seems to always be a choice on the road for me and sometimes > I have ended up there without even knowing I was choosing that road but helpless > to find another path.  However, I think that tunnell is like all the others here > that involve food....It is being used to help us travel as comfortably and > possible and that is where we each need to start our journey. What is the > gift....What is it we get from that path....tough questions I know... > > My therapist uses a lot of the same ideas as and so her program works > right with what I am working on.  I think that huge gains can be made on your > own using the techniques in IOWL and other good books. I have a number of > recommendations I could throw out if anyone is interested. > > Avie I hope that you are working with a counselor and that you do not believe > the lie that the way you feel in your body is the cause of your unhappiness. > More is going on. What is it? >   Livingston > > > > > ________________________________ > > To: insideoutweightloss > Sent: Tue, June 21, 2011 10:42:53 AM > Subject: IOWL: ... > >  > hi everyone! i am just bingeing a lot lately... pretty much every > other day (tho yesterday and already today). to be honest, i'm not > doing much IOWL " work " ... i dont know what i'm doing.. apparently > nothing. i feel so bloated, etc and am just not happy. i need to > change NOW because i'm going crazy. > > thanks, > Avie > > -- > Avie Linden > University of Michigan - Anthropology > Program in the Environment, History of Art > > > > >
