Hi everyone! This is my first step to being " Full-filled. " I would love to

connect with people who can share their experiences. I'm doing this alone and

suggests connecting with others along the way! If anyone has advice for

beginning the book I would so welcome that! I'm on Chapter #2 right now and am

feeling very humbled. As excited as I am to be doing this program, I also feel

a bit unsure. Thank you all!

Sincerely,

Welcome to the group, !

My advice as you go through the book is to keep in mind that the objective is to

change your relationship with food in 6 weeks, not to change your weight in 6

weeks.

As you read through the book and do the exercises, you may or may not change

your weight during this time. But, the real, lasting change will be in your

attitudes towards food.

I'll echo Sian's advice. The most important thing is to stop and actually do

each digging in exercise. I'd been listening to 's podcasts for several

months, sometimes listening to two a day. But I wasn't putting in, as

says, to get out. So I would have a realization when I was listening to a

podcast, but I wasn't stopping to journal what I'd learned, so I developed the

amnesia that's been part of my relationship with food: get a little close to a

truth, but not so close that I really wrestle it to the ground and heal it. I'm

working through my second round of the book now. And writing, writing, writing.

And it's paid huge dividends. I'm so much calmer around food, and it amazes me!

It's a healing process, not a quick read. Enjoy discovering yourself.

HI Sian!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such an inciteful note about your

experiences!  As a fellow journier (not sure if that's a word :-) I'm really

proud of you for your weight release!  That's so awesome!  Your note really

helped on so many levels.  I've been at it for a week now and am on Chapter 3,

as I may have shared before.  I've done all the " dig-ins " and really explored

the issues that not only have faced my weight struggles but my life concerns as

well.  Did that happen for you while you were in the beginning stages?  Does

it

become easier as time goes on?

I " m at the place that you wrote about where I now need to " digest " what I've

learned and done.  It's funny...but I feel some small changes in my thinking

have occurred.  I guess I'm just trying to remain quiet within myself to

process

what I'm feeling and learning.

Your thoughts about trusting the process hit home, too.  's podcasts are

so

funny, uplifting and helpful that I can see where that could fill in the gap

when there are moments of weakness.  How were you able to trust through your

seven week time?  You mentioned going back to the journal--that definately has

helped--but are there other things?

I really admire your vision and attitude on your journey! I agree with what

another wrote about you as being a wonderful example and model for this amazing

program!  I truly hope that all continues to go well for you! And I really

appreciate you taking the time to write to me--it came at a great time!

Sincerely,

Hi ,

I'm so glad you are enjoying the book! I too couldn't put it down. I found

myself going quickly in parts and slowing down in others - trying to be

mindful of where I hesitated and giving myself the time to slow down when I

knew i needed it. I finished in about 4 weeks and I've been doing this now

for about 7 weeks. It rocks!

I guess my advice is to trust the process. Go through it at your pace, but

don't rush - do all the exercises and keep going back to them. One of the

toughest things for me has been to remember that this is a process, with

ups and downs, and to trust that it will be ok and work out. So far so

good! I'm doing well and my relationship with food is so altered that it

feels like I'm in a dream sometimes. I'm learning to trust it and trust the

process as I go thorough it. I also listen to 's podcasts - I started

from the beginning. I don't do one every day, but whenever I struggle with

trusting. The weight is coming off (23 lbs!), but mostly it's just fun to

be ok around food. I've got to loose almost half my weight and I'm trying

to just " zen " into the process and not get frustrated at what feels like a

" slow " pace, lol. :-)

Good luck to you in your own journey! It's a wonderful place to be!

Dear Sian,

Thank you for validating the silly " journier " word! :-) I really appreciated

what you said about the courage piece in all this!  One thing I have learned in

my limited time here is that important changes do require courage and this is an

big one to be sure!  I like what you said about enjoying the process and

appreciating what it has done for you so far!--that it has freed you to want to

persue other interests!  I have to tell you just before my wonderful husband

told me about this book, I had signed up for an online weight loss program and

felt very limited and trapped by counting calories.  I feel so free right

now--and trusting that I can eat and do the right thing...I kind of like it (but

it's scary too!)

I also like what you shared about listening to your body! As people we don't

listen to ourselves much--this program is connecting me to that important part

of myself.  Your suggestions on how you keep up with yourself were very. Being

in the beginning stages of this I know what you mean about being " gungho. " I

hope that as I work the program more I can be more like you and the other

successful journiers! Your thoughts on addressing the cravings was awesome and

I'm going to try it!  The thing is beginning menopause now doesn't help when

the

chocolate moments call!

Because everything and everyone is so spiritual and positive in every step of

this process it's easy to see why this can help so many people!  I hope it can

help me, too.

Thank you, Sian for your upbeat words of comfort and wisdom! You're helping so

many yourself! I will also pray for you and for the others on this path!

Sincerely,

Hi ,

I say we make " journier " a word - it's awesome! :-D

Thank you for your kind words and support. I am sure there are people here

who have been on the program longer than I have, but I'm happy to share my

experiences so far.

I have definitely found that this program has expanded my horizons beyond

weight loss. One of my biggest fears when I started the program was " If I

don't have food in my life, what's left? My life will be empty. " While I

knew intellectually that it was kind of a " silly " thought, it was very real

terror. As I began to test that gently - to question the belief that my

life would be empty without food, I found that instead my life opened up to

so many more possibilities. So for example, I'm exploring art/painting

which I have longed to do, but been to scared to. I have the career I love,

which is a huge bonus, but I'm also letting go of parts of it that I

thought I'd want (ambitions) and realizing what I truly love about it.

So yah, definitely, this process will affect other concerns in your life.

says that this is the easiest diet you'll ever go on and in some ways

she's completely right. But what she doesn't tell you is how much courage

it's going to take to get through it. It takes a lot of courage to face the

terrors that are in your subconscious. But I can say this - whether or not

I ever release all the weight I have (I need to release 120+lbs), I will

never regret reading this book. It's changed my life and I see myself and

my world in a whole new way. I guess this is why I think for the first time

in my life that I actually CAN lose weight.

In terms of what has helped me trust the process...hmm...it's really just

as you say - I try to really listen to myself. I spend a lot of time in

reflection - often walking or when I'm working out. Asking myself how are

things going and trying not to be too critical. If a craving comes up, I

think " oh wow! Look at that! Ok, so what's going on that I'm craving food? "

I then take a deep breath and go inward. Just in acknowledging it, the

cravings go away. For me it usually has to do with feeling anxiety of some

sort. So I just give myself some sympathy for feeling the anxiety and the

cravings dissipate.

For example, I was really gungho on the beginning when it started working.

I ate just three meals a day (no snacks) and each meal between 3-400

calories. And the weight did come off. I learned to deal with the terror

that would come up when I'd feel really hungry - that it's just a feeling

and that was helpful. But what i also noticed was that around 4-5pm or so

I'd start to feel rather tired - nodding off at work. I realized that I did

need some more energy to tied me over until dinner. So I added in a 150-200

calorie snack. Now I have energy AND the weight is releasing.

So learning to listen to what my body needs (not just wants) has been key.

And it isn't perfect either. I do occasionally overeat - but no big deal.

I'm right back on track at the next meal. And I then reflect on what

happened and why. So yes, it does get easier. You get used to listening to

yourself and not being terrified at what you'll find. It becomes an

exercise in curiosity- why did I do that? I think you've totally got that -

just listen to yourself. :-)

So my fellow Journier - that's part of my story. :-) I hope yours is even

more joyful than mine and that you find your way. If there is anything I

(or we) can do to help, you have but to ask. I love that in her

podcasts asks us to remember to pray for everyone else on the journey and

that to remember that we are also receiving that back. I do that for you

all.

Sian

I'm doing the same this time around, actually writing instead of just thinking

about my answers.
