Guest guest
Ditto on the protein powder. I lost a LOT of weight, very rapidly when I took MTX. All totaled, about 35 pounds, and I'm a very thin guy normally. I got an all-natural, soy based protein powder, malt flavored (naturally flavored), and made milkshakes with it, when I could hold one down. At 25mg or protein per scoop, it just can¹t be beat. The taste was fine for me, but I like soy, so you may wanna look around other alternatives if you don't. Anyways, it stopped a very rapid weight loss in its tracks, and put a few pounds on me. May I ask why you want to gain weight ? Robbie in FL, co-moderator chronic_pain. AS/RS (ReA) 18 + years. feralelf@...
Guest guest
Hi Robbie, I've never tried any soy based powder. Maybe I'll give that a shot. I've always had trouble putting on weight. Always been underweight. By always I mean always - all of my life. When I was pregnant, people gloated, oh, now, you'll get fat - having resented my skinniness, which sucks just as much as being overweight. It really, really does. But even that didn't do it. I hate getting cold more quickly than anyone else, I would catch colds and viruses easier except I take a lot of vitamins and herbs to keep me going. Have you ever tried to buy size zero clothes, LOL? Hard to find and more expensive when one does. I've just never have had a 'normal' appetite, and then I had ulcers when I was younger and my stomach is sensitive still, and the pain medications don't help either. Sigh... Thanks for the soy idea. I really need to get off my (skinny little) butt and at least try to do something about this one way or another. My dog is getting old so walking him is a slow, cold process and I can't handle the guilt trip he gives me because I don't walk him for as long when it gets cold out!!! (I'm in Michigan, which for me means extended stays in the great outdoors = t-shirt, thermal undershirt, usually a sweatshirt, always a hooded sweatshirt with hat underneath and furry hat with attached scarf over, long thick coat, extra-wide wool scarf, jogging pants over jeans with thermal underwear, knee-high winter boots. On warmer days I might skip the jogging pants and the extra hat with scarf. Oh, and a pair of gloves with a pair of mittens over.) (Maybe I should get on the scale and weigh myself right before I walk the dog just to make myself feel better!) crazy_horse > Ditto on the protein powder. Guest guest
crazy_horse, I hope it works for you. It did for me, and I sound like I¹m in a similar boat. I¹ve been skinny all my life, sometimes to the detriment of my health. I eat like a horse, when I can and am not undergoing some nauseating treatment. I too have had that resentment directed at me, and it's dismaying to go through. I'd, ideally, like to maintain my weight of 180, but I tend to gravitate to 150 or so. It's a real chore to try to keep it on, especially when I'm taking drugs that nauseate me. Currently I weigh 149 lbs, and I am now 5'9 " , down from my past height of 5'11 " . My AS has shrunk me. My frame is still the same, however- skinny. Robbie in FL, co-moderator chronic_pain. AS/RS (ReA) 18 + years. feralelf@...
Guest guest
Thanks Robbie. I'm trying to find my catalogs to see if I can get it through one of them (when things get really messy I clean up and then I can't find whatever I'm looking for.) I'm assuming it would be at a health food store and they tend to be overpriced. And I don't go out a whole lot either. Yes, it's the health thing. Not enough weight = not enough reserves for your body to work with. crazy_horse > crazy_horse, I hope it works for you. Guest guest
I see your situation. Well, just an FYI, I bought a large, make that VERY large container of the soy at my local grocery store in Massachusetts- the last place I expected to find such a thing. Since then, I've bought another two or three at grocery stores all over. Surprisingly, even small ones carry this stuff in their " health " sections. The name of this particular product I like is GeniSoy, Ultra-XT Formula. I thought you might find a quick breakdown handy, so here's what's on the label: Per Scoop, all in RDA (recommended daily allowance) terms, US. 100 Calories 0 Calories from fat Total Fat 0 Saturated Fat 0 Cholesterol 0 Sodium 270 mg, or 11% RDA Potassium 90 mg, or 3% Carbohydrates 0 Dietary Fiber 5 g or 20% Sugars 0 PROTEIN 25g or 50% It also has a 50% calcium RDA and a 2% iron. ANYways, for the times when I couldn't eat at all, 2 scoops and a little juice or ice cream would get all the RDA of protein into me, when needed. Good luck to you on this. Guest guest
I'm kinda freaked out by a recent weight gain. I lost 20+ pounds with iowl and have basically kept them off for years. But now I've gained some weight and I don't know what's going on with my body. I'm eating when hungry. Usually if I gain weight, it's because I'm eating when I'm not hungry and I re-balance, listen to some podcasts, figure out the root of the problem. But, I've been physically hungry--this morning I woke up starving. I've been exercising, not overeating. What gives? Mimz
Guest guest
is it weight gain? i.e. have you gained inches? are clothes not fitting as they use to? are you exercising? you could be gaining muscle if you're not gaining inches and clothing is still fitting the same as it use to ... ________________________________ To: Iowl <insideoutweightloss > Sent: Saturday, March 3, 2012 10:36 AM Subject: Weight gain  I'm kinda freaked out by a recent weight gain. Guest guest
I agree Colleen, I weighted in the other day and have gained 3 pounds but I wore a pair of pants yesterday that I have not been able to get into since last winter. I'm seriously thinking about throwing my scale away and never looking back again!!!! ________________________________ To: " insideoutweightloss " <insideoutweightloss > Sent: Sunday, March 4, 2012 12:23 AM Subject: Re: Weight gain  is it weight gain? i.e. have you gained inches? are clothes not fitting as they use to? are you exercising? you could be gaining muscle if you're not gaining inches and clothing is still fitting the same as it use to ... ________________________________ To: Iowl <insideoutweightloss > Sent: Saturday, March 3, 2012 10:36 AM Subject: Weight gain  I'm kinda freaked out by a recent weight gain.
