Hi,

My husband takes Synemet -twice a day- since 7 years now. Yesterday morning I

found him on the floor, blood on the nose, hand... We've been at the hospital,

nothing is broken. After he slepts most of the day.

I didn't hear nothing, when I found him the blood was dry. He cannot sleep well

without Zypresa.

He's very depress, sometimes cries, is hard to see. I try to make him know that

I'm with him, sometimes I feel that he's gone and just touching his hand I try

to get him back.

I hope today he will be better.

Sincerely,

Virginia Maldonado.

Hi, Virginia,

My dad takes a medicine for his rigidity called Sinemet( generic form is

Carbidopa/Levodopa). It has worked very well for him. However, each patient

responds to medicines very differently. Some people in the group have had

good

experiences with it, and some have not. Hang in there!

Hugs,

Piper

Virginia,

I am just getting to reply to your post and want to say welcome. No one

wants to be here and yet this site saved my sanity when I had my Mother

with me. There is a group for husbands and wives too. Some people stay

with us and some couples like the spouse site better. At the spouse

site, everyone is a couple and so some things can be better understood

by all.

I took care of my Mom for 3 years at home and 1 year at a nursing home.

I mostly did it myself with the help of 1 daughter. It is a hard job

especially when you are working. It is good you have some help. I

never found a specialist, but worked with a G P who was the best for me

because he paid attention to what I thought worked and didn't work. And

he was good a trying things.

I hope we can support you and keep writing and asking questions. Your

English is fine.

Darn, that's scary. Does Brain Fog go away once your thyroid is stabilized? I have to kids and it's scares me that it might be this bad where I'll forget to pick them up or something. Is that very common? Knippers wrote:

I am in college and have been for 9 years (psychology major) and, suddenly it seems but when I think about it... it’s been gradually coming for a few years).... I don’t know anything. I’m really forgetful and a good example is this:

I have spoken Spanish (Tex Mex) for about 11 years. Not perfectly fluent but I could go to Mexico and have a small conversation with no problem. The first Spanish class I had was 3 years ago and I aced it without even trying. Now I’m in a Spanish 2 class and cannot even put two sentences together and had to go out and hire a personal tutor ! It’s crazy to where I cannot even explain it without sounding like I’m literally crazy!! In fact, I cannot even SPEAK it anymore.

On the other hand I have NEVER been able to “do” math and, in fact, avoided all of them possible during high school and college. I have NEVER had an algebra class and suddenly I had to take one (the avoidance caught up to me) and I am understanding it with NO WORK at all. Same with biology and chemistry. I quit high school and moved to a different school just to AVOID these two classes. In college I’ve avoided them too until last semester when the avoidance caught up to me. I aced them too with not much work! However the semester prior to that I had to drop because I was failing !! It’s just BIZARRE and these are the only ways that I can explain it. Your brain does different things and will forget or lose your train of thought.

My doctor was telling me that one of his patients became so bad with “brain fog” that she forgot to pick her kids up at school at 3:30 and not until around 6 PM did she notice (and only because she had supper ready and did not notice them at the table) or who knows how long they’d have been there. It turned out they had called her at 4 and she didn’t even remember getting the phone call.

Hope this helps to explain it !

Can someone put into words what exactly brain fog is?

Thanks,Treyce d' wrote:

I just spoke to my Minnesota doctor to see if I can get the rest of my lab results. He then stated, “feeling hot, heart palpitations, sweating, etc.” so now I don’t feel quite so bad other than the fact I do not want to feel like that while I go to college although I think those would be better than the horrible brain fog I’m now having !

So it is better to have both a T3 or T4. What is the difference between taking Armour only OR taking Cytomel AND Synthroid for example ? Because we have been looking at this problem, UNtreated, for 14 years the doctors want to treat it aggressively at the onset and then find which works. However the TCM doc said that the only way to see what works is to start with Cytomel only for about 3 months, test again, then depending upon those results ADD Synthroid for 3 months and test again. Does that sound right ?

Sorry for all the questions but, after 14 years, I am ready to hit this head on ! Thanks for all of your help !

I was taking cytomel only before my cancer diagnosis. If it hadn't been for that monkey wrench, I would have been asking for a change to add T4 in some format (probably Armour). Before taking anything, my Free T3 was very low and Free T4 was mid-range. After taking Cytomel only for about 2-3 months, my T3 was up (I forget where now), but T4 had dropped quite a bit. I read later that taking Cytomel only tends to do that to Free T4 levels.

Betsy

One (TCM) doctor told me to just use the Cytomel ONLY and nothing else and now that the regular doctor has prescribed Lev. And I'm reading about all these "side effects" you two are having (especially since I already have heart palpitation issues in the recent past), I'm wondering if I shouldn't take Cytomel ONLY ! Anyone tried Cytomel ? If so, please let me know your results !

Thanks !!

All of your symptoms should go away once you have your hormones stabilized. It just takes time, and some symptoms hang around longer than others.

One time, before I was diagnosed, when still in the hyper phase of Hashi's, I left my then 10 yr old son in a Kroger's store, walked right on out the door and went home with the groceries. Honestly thought I was by myself, lol! I had even asked him to go along with me, and he was enjoying reading the books back on one of the other isles. Of course, I was in the store for a good 30 minutes or so. He is now 26 and still razzes me about this one, hehe! Certainly wasn't aging thing because I was only 38 at the time. I had dropped an unbelievable amt of weight, was running like a hamster on a wheel, and ate anything I wanted to, and had tons of this weird relentless energy that always resulted in free floating anxiety. My son had called from the store's phone and left a message for me to come get him. I was so exasperated with myself and couldn't understand how I could have forgotten he was with me, as I'd never done anything like that before. We were both totally bewildered at the time.

I went to college a few yrs ago (night school) and aced 2 accounting courses that had lots of fractions, algebra, etc....in them, and it had been 30 yrs since I was in high school doing this kind of work. These are the types of activities that allow you to just zero in on the "paper", not really on people and multiple tasking going on around you. Yet I still have problems being amongst many many noisy people with tons of conversation. Language on paper, for me, is different than have a "multiple conversation" orally. My take on this is that it is an adrenal fatigue thing, as WELL as a hypothyroid thing. IMO, particular parts of the brain become very "studied", as a matter of self protection and "catching up", but may be to "cover" the parts of the brain that are suffering from the disease itself. Wish I knew where all I'd read this thing about the brain chemistry and hypo and low adrenal substances. There are many places I've seen this sort of "hint" at this type of brain chemistry, but it escapes me as to where. I can sit down right now and do all sorts of facts and figures and organization, but I still have the "stuffy room filled with people" syndrome, even with better thyroid treatment. I am now 54 and probably need xtra female hormones too, but this is also part of the adrenal ailments, IMHO.

thanks

>Hi Joan,

Thanks for listening, as you already know,it is very hard to talk to

most people about our disease. They ask how one is out of kindness,

but I think they really don't care, they are only being polite. I am

sure there is someone much worse off than me, that's what keeps me

going everyday. It seems like the rhemuy's all may have one patient,

but I have yet to meet someone else with my disease. I am thinking

about going to the conference, so I actually CAN meet someone with our

disease. Are you going? I did read that you live in the U.K., so it

would be quite a trip. Maybe one day, though.

Hi Danni:

Thanks for listening, I know I am not the only with problems, it is

just so nice to know that other people like me have similar ones. As

you probably already know, most people might ask how one is, but they

don't want to hear the truthful answers. I usually answer with " I'm

great, thanks for asking, how are you? " People are just trying to be

polite today and aren't interested in your problems. That's why I

finally decided to join the Still's group, I knew people would

understand, just like you. So thanks for listening and maybe I will

still you at the conference. Where do you live? I am from the Los

Angeles area, what about you?

Hi

Thanks for listening. I live in the Los Angeles area, so your rhemuy

would not help me. I have seen the top researcher and head rhemuy at

U.C.L.A. He consulted with my local rhemuy, but it was not much

help. He made a attack plan for me that I have already gone all the

way through and no luck putting the disease into remission. It was

worth a try. My local doctor wants me to go to the Mayo clinic. He

thought since he has run out of suggestions to put my disease into to

remission, maybe they had some answers. I don't know though, it seems

like a long way to go to possibly get the same anwers I already had

from the local doctors. I am searching and hoping for the next move

however.

Thanks again for listening,

Dana.. I did ask that question to Dr. Dobyns. His response was basically this

" look at his life in blocks of 10 years " meaning, if he is healthy etc after 10

years he will likely live another 10..if not more of course. The difficulty in

that is the unknown illnesses and effects of changes they go through. I

dont think honestly I can really handle this one too well, because we have

basically decided that will be with us all the way to retirement!!! and

beyond.. in terms of planning for the future.

The Lord holds all of our lifespans in the palm of his hands. He calls to us

to live a life of abundance and to love each other.

Reality tells me, I dont know about anyone else, but there is no specific

answer to life span. " it simply depends. "

Still to this day so many people ask us that...what is the outlook for his

life span... I answer, the same as anyone elses...

Sorry for the real late response on this, but what I dealt with a few

years back may be similar to what you are experiencing. I had an incredibly

sharp pain intermittently for about a week that I wrote off as back pain.

This is back when I worked 60 hours per week and was always banged up a

little bit. One night the pain became intolerable, and I went to the ER.

Well, it turned out it wasn't my back, it was my left kidney. As soon as

the Dr. put pressure on it I screamed like all hell was breaking loose. They

did a quick cat scan and some x-rays. The idiot ER Dr. I had blamed it on my

eating of Jalapeno peppers!

A few days later when they had me scheduled for an ultrasound the pain was

gone, and I never did get an explanation of what had occurred. I don't think

it was a stone as I never noticed passing one and the ultra-sound showed

nothing out of the ordinary.

Have to love it, Kirk.

Have you tried Mucinex (Guaifenesin)? It thins mucus

I started the neti pot yesterday. I'm just about willing to try anything. My sinuses have been a mess forever and that translates to congestion in the chest.

So far so good. I definitely have not noticed as much post nasal drip.

Interesting enough, my husband does not have asthma, but he bought a

neti pot about 10 years ago. He swears by it. I was having severe sinus

infections due to one lone tooth that had gone real bad, but I still

would not do the neti pot. I was scared of it. Luckily I went to the

doctor, and she got rid of the sinus infections and meanwhile I also

went to the dentist, and he pulled the culprit. I have not had a sinus

infection again, but my thought is to get used to the neti pot before I

have one. My doctor is the one who recommended it. Again, I am scared of

it....it might be a common reaction. But again, I cannot stress to

anyone thinking of using one...try it before the need. If your sinuses

are clear, you will get the hang of the water pouring from one nostril

to the other, and you can learn the technique without going down the

throat. Saline solution is what my doctor recommended. She said it would

clear the sinuses plus help fight any infection. A light saline solution.

,

Thank you for sharing.

.

Thanks

I wish to thanks those persons who understood my intentions when I posted my story. And to those it offended, I did not wish to offend you. It was a long post and it detailed my experience. With so much information different individuals reading it can interpret the communication differently. Years ago, I would write a newsletter for a group I belonged to. I found that no matter how clearly I would think I wrote it, there were always others who read it differently. It is kind of like an optical illusion that occurs at times. Like in the picture where it says,"Do you see an old woman? Or a young Princess? and depending on your eyes, your mindset, you can see either.

I like the communication within the group. My post did bring out discussion. Others remarked on changes they have made in their lives that caused significant improvements in their breathing. I did not intend to generalize to all that a water fast was for everyone. In my case, I was weighing 255 lbs; There was lots of fat for my body to feed off of for the 20 days I fasted. A 100 lb woman, well, she definitely should not do what I did. And, I would not have my 9 year old grand daughter do it either. I expected all to use good judgment.

Many people who knew me thought I was crazy when I did this but, after-wards they think differently. For those who have not studied fasting and do not understand it, the first thought in their mind is OMG that person is starving themselves to death; That is very unhealthy. I would have thought that too but it is exactly the opposite. There are also other ways to cleanse our body's as well. One can search the Internet and learn a lot. In my case, something way causing all the inflammation and mucus production and skin issues and sinus blockage and nail infections. By cleansing my body and changing my diet to healthier nutritious foods all that ceased to be a problem and all my symptoms disappeared. I say I am cured, others say I will never be cured. They may be right, if I let my eating habits return as before, if I let the toxins build back in my body as before, if I gain the weight I had before, there is a good chance my problems will return. I posted to provide hope and thought and to share what had helped me. Similar changes in your life may help you. Remember, we are all different, and when a Doctor prescribes drugs to you, each can react differently to those same drugs. So we all need to keep in touch with our body's, what we feel and react accordingly. It is really up to us.

Thanks again for the support and communication.
