Guest guest
Hi everyone. My name is . I discovered 's podcast last week and I've been reading her book, too. I'm 35 and I've had issues with food for my entire adult life. Mainly my problems are being more interested in eating junk food than real food and bingeing like a maniac when I tried to diet. I could probably stand to lose 100 pounds. When I gave birth to my first child last year, I was forced to acknowledge that my weight problem was more than cosmetic and existential -- that in fact, it has real bearing on my health. So I'm here. Right now my big problem is drive-thru treats. Right now (and for the foreseeable future) I am a stay-at-home mom, which I basically like (and I definitely love my son!). When I get bored or down or too hungry, I pack up the baby and hit a drive-thru. I really would like some insight about how I can stop that if anyone else here can relate or perhaps has had the same problem.

Guest guest
Hi , welcome There a whole host of things that could help but it is probably a combination that will work for you not one fix. The first is your motivation to do things differently. Will power can get you through some habits and can certainly help to start to prove to yourself a trip to the drive through isn't a given every time you feel like it. Using redos and lessening the number of times you use it as a solution helps get into new healthier solutions and the success will make you happy and less likely to need to eat to be happy. One of my habits was " popping in places " on the way home to get something to snack on. Once I managed to drive past this a few times I started to realise I didn't need to. I just wanted to. I hate the drive home because of the traffic and it seems like wasted time and once I wanted to NOT call in more - it became easier and easier). This was partly by remembering how crap I felt after stuffing my face and partly by making the journey more pleasant with listening to talking books, so the journey wasn't wasted but enjoyable. I also remember one journey where I did a hurrah every time I drove past a shop/garage that I could have called into, but didn't. It was a journey full of cheers! You might like to consider the triggers - boredom and too hungry. If you are bored, can you change the pattern that gets you to boredom. Could you set an intent to " be happy in every moment today " . Are you doing renewing things, so a day is good as it can be and boredom doesn't come into it. (Not always possible I know, some things are boring) If you really are hungry not bored. Why are you letting yourself get too hungry. Hunger is great and reassuring if you want to lose weight, but not too hungry if it leads to this pattern. Are you planning your meals (doing a pre do for your day). Surely eating the food you already have in the house and planned for is much easier than going for a drive? Or is it the drive you want and getting out of the house and you use the drive through as your destination as a reason for getting out. What about the park instead? gives you lots of tools to use, but a lot of work is about thinking, If I'm not hungry at this point, but I want to eat, what is it I actually need or want. How can I prepare for this recurring in the future. When you think you have a solution, try it out and then learn from it. IF it helps a bit, great, if things are the same, try something else. More thinking then comes and you get deeper and deeper into understanding your old habits and motivations - there is never one easy answer, but the thinking and then trying the different tools to support you in find alternative ways to doing and thinking is what makes it fun - you'll may never be bored again! SOrry if this is a bit rambly - it's my first post in a while Viv > > Hi everyone. My name is . > > I discovered 's podcast last week and I've been reading her book, too. Guest guest
Hi everyone. Thank you Vivienne and Eldred for the kind and insightful replies. I had a much better day today. This method is like cross-country skiing. Once you get going, it's got momentum and it feels wonderful. --
