Guest guest
Once again, the FDA is somewhat lagging in their reporting! Ma Huang Warning The herbal supplement ma huang can increase the chance of having a stroke, heart attack, or even sudden death, according to an article published in the January 2002 issue of the medical journal Mayo Clinic Proceedings. This holds true even for healthy individuals who take the recommended dosage. Ma huang is an herbal source of ephedrine that has been used in Chinese medicine for more than 5,000 years. It is now found in many dietary supplements. Researchers reviewed information from a US Food and Drug Administration database and found more than 900 cases of possible ma huang poisoning from 1995-1997. Remember that just because a product is "herbal" does not necessarily mean taking it is without risk. Never take any sort of herbal or nutritional supplement without first discussing it with your physician.- M. Ellman
