You don't want to be on prednisone anymore than you absolutely have to. I am steroid dependent and have all sorts of problems because of it. Weight gain, edema, diabetes, vision problems, bone loss, low immunity, easy briusing, etc... Plus it masks other things. Right now I am in kidney failure and they are having a hard time finding the cause because of the steroids. Steroids can also lead to lymphomas and a bunch of other problems. I have been on 40mg a day for several years and wish that I could get off but the only other alternative is not breathing. I am only 28 years old so I have a long life ahead of me with these complicationszmom55 wrote: Am occasionally on prednisone, with success, and would like to be on the medication more ofter to keep me well. I am reluctant to take more often but am concerned about the negatives outweighing the positives.Very interested in input from asthma sufferers on prednisone, and anyone else with information about what to expect from long-term and/or repeated use: side effects we may know about (bloating, insomnia, etc) and those we may not always be aware of (bone loss, etc). Thanks to anyone willing to share your knowledge.
