I couldn't afford it, as I was spending more than $300 a month, and have no insurance. I now use methadone, which costs about $20 per month. Oxycontin is oxycodone, which is the medication found in percocet and percodan (actually there are two very similar drugs, oxycodone and hydrocodone, and I may have them switched, but they are very similar). The difference with OC is that it is time release. It claims to be for 12 hours, but for me and other people I have heard from it lasts much less than that. I found myself going through withdrawal symptoms because the Doc insisted the literature must be right, so I had to pretend it lasted 12 hours, even though it didn't. Methadone is at least as effective for me. The main down side is that it makes me very drowsy at times. I can't speak to your question about your asthma. MS contin is morshine sulfate, contin, or continuous release. The idea is the same with MS Contin and Oxycontin, but the main ingredient is different of course. Oxycodone could have the same effect on your breathing, but there's only one way to find out for sure. Do you need to pain relief enough to take a chance??
