Guest guest
Hello, my name is Jenn. I've been subscribed to this group for a month, and I guess its time to introduce myself. I am 29 years old and I have had chronic pain for the last five to seven years. It all started after my tailbone broke during the delivery of my first child. I didn't even know it was broken until the day after he was born. It hurt to sit, and so the nurse looked at my back. My tailbone was swollen and bruised. She told me that I had broken my tailbone, and that she was concerned while I was in labor, that it would get in the way. But no one told me this while I was in labor. If they had, I probably would have wanted a C- section. Anyway, I have had back, neck, arm, shoulder, hip and leg pain. I also feel achy alot for some reason. I've been told that I have nerve damage in my shoulders which is why it hurts at night. I have a hard time sleeping because of the pain in my shoulders, arms, hip and legs. I just can't seem to get comfortable. I've been to several doctors, most of which wouldn't take me seriously. A few years ago I went to a Chiropractor and he was the first to take me seriously. He took an X-Ray of my tailbone (the other doctors didn't), and he had never seen one broken so badly. The tip of it is almost completely broken off. He told me that because of my tailbone, its pulling on the ligament on my spine, and pulled it out of alignment. And so I have pinched nerves in my shoulders and arms. I went there for awhile, but had to stop because of money. The most recent doctor I went to prescribed Physical Therapy for me. I went for a month, but had to quit because it costs too much money. A few months ago, I started to have major neck pain, where I could hardly move it at all. So I went to the doctor mentioned above. He told me I had a cervical strain and he thought therapy would help. He also prescribed me to vioxx and also I am on a antidepressent Celexa (thats another story). It did help my headaches to not be so frequent. But since I stopped going, I have had more pain again. And I am started to get depressed again, and alot of times I just want to avoid people. On top of it all I have chronic fatigue, which I have had for a long time. It's sometimes hard to take care of my family, but somehow I get through the day. I thought maybe I could use the support of a chronic pain group to help me emotionally. I don't really think my doctor knows whats wrong with me. And I can't afford to keep going back. The vioxx doen't help much, and nothing I have tried helps ease the pain. Some days are worse then others. Does anyone know what might help me with the pain so that I can sleep at night? The doctor also gave me a sleeping pill, and even though I still hurt at night, I can actually get some sleep. I just don't know what to do. I just want to feel normal again, so that I can be a better wife to my husband, and a better mother to my three boys. Anyway, that's my story. Do you have a HMO for insurance? They don't give too shits about anybody. Sorry to say! Has your doctor checked you out for fibromyagia? Probably not as most of them don't or MS? These are diseases that usually effect women that are 25-40. I think I would find a neurosurgeon in your particular case. If you went to one before try to go to another one for a second opinion and bring any MRI's CT Scans, Mylograms that you have had previously and discuss your concern and problems. And if you don't get any answers demand an answer. Sometimes that is what it takes from doctors because they are so afraid of malpractice suits. Doctors are very funny these days about diagnosing a problem because of malpractice and their liability insurance. Check with friends in your area that have dealt with a neurosurgeon that is of high quality and schedule an appointment as soon as you can. I hope you can get help very soon! He's a small engine mechanic and so we do have pretty good insurance through them. But we do have to pay a $500 deductible per person before our insurance will pay anything. After that, they pay either 60 or 70% of the bill. We can pretty much go to any doctor we want too, but we pay less if we go to one of their own choosing. I was checked for MS four or five years ago, but they found nothing. I have wondered if it might be Fibromyalgia... but I haven't been checked for it. How do they check for it? I haven't had anymore major tests like a catscan. But I have had blood work done. I might go to a neurosurgeon, once we get our bills paid. Thanks for the advice!
