Guest guest
The smoke can travel by air for many many miles, if you go out wear something over your nose and mouth and if you vehicle has the option of recycling the air that's in the car turn it on. I had that problem when the smoke came over the mountains from NC to MD, I thought it was just haze until someone told me about it, by then it was already too late, my numbers dropped to the VERY yellow zone but within 8 hours I got it back up by being in the AC (weird but the colder the better) and using the meds every 4 hours like directed. So I guess what I'm saying is you will be effected by that smoke. Treat it like a code orange or red day (weather people talk LOL) We're code orange today so I know not to go outside unless I want trouble, the 3 H's are trouble, Hazy Hot and Humid. Only thing that's good for is watching movies or sleeping LOL. Terry I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I just wish that He didn't trust me so much. ~Mother Teddy Bear's Early Learning Program Established August of 1992 Anyone in California? I am wondering how everyone is doing with breathing issues. I am a few hours north of the northern most fires but I can't go down south right now because the air is bad. ------------------------------------
Guest guest
Yes we are having a really hard time here. My daughter is actually at camp in the mountains close to the fires but she is doing ok. Some of the adults at camp are having trouble though. My husband is doing really bad and needing regular nebulizer treatments. Every day here has been a red flag day because of particulates. It's not uncommon to have red days here in the summer due to ozone but we are not used to particulates outside of winter. Where we live is in a valley, almost like a big bowl so all the bad air settles here really bad. If you look out the window the air is brown...ICK!! If you can avoid coming anywhere near here I would stay far away for a while. I usually open our windows at night here but not now. We have been running the AC 24 hours a day. My PG & E bill is going to be ugly! Current conditions still show smoke: http://weather.yahoo.com/forecast/USCA0406.html Rhonda~ -------------- Original message ---------------------- > I am wondering how everyone is doing with breathing issues. Guest guest
What county are you in? You can private mail if you don't want to put it on the board. Just wondering if you were in Mendocino county as I was curious about the summer air quality you were talking about. I guess I should keep my windows closed anyway, my breathing is not so great today, maybe I should temporarily up my meds, sometimes I add singular to advair when I am not doing well for a boost. Guest guest
If you are asking me I'm in Fresno County. Pretty far from Mendocino. The fires here are burning in Mariposa County, near Yosemite. I'm about an hour drive from Yosemite. Most of the Northern state is on fire right now. The fires in the Central Valley, where I am, are getting under control and should be completely under control by early next week. I got a letter from my daughter today and she said the smoke is gone there {makes sense since the fire near her was on the other side of the ridge and the wind blew all that smoke in my direction} she also asked me to send her donuts...not happening! It's actually getting a little scary living in this state anymore. The current issue has a really good story about why the west is burning. I don't think we are anywhere near the last of all of this unfortunately. Rhonda~ -------------- Original message ---------------------- > What county are you in? Guest guest
My allergist told me that it takes weeks to get Singular in your system and that it's not like an antihistime that will be out of your blood stream within 24 hours if you stop taking them. If you take Singular, you should take it every day. At least that's what he told me. Hope you are doing better. I'm looking forward to some cooler weather myself. > > What county are you in? Guest guest
Im in California, at the top of Los Angeles county border. I grew up in Utah...coming to California was the worst thing that has ever happened to me healthwise, though I somehow barely managed finishing school here. It's NOT just the air quality in California. The economy is SO bad here, that many people hold 2 jobs just to pay rent, with very little left for their families, even though people paint a rosy picture and say there are jobs here. FYI, the jobs dont pay much more than other places, and rent for a 2 bedroom apartment STARTS upwards of $1,500.00 per month. People here have to run around a lot just to live, and this is part of causing bad health for people, whether or not you have asthma. You have to bear in mind that a lot of the articles about California's economy being great and lots of jobs, were written and researched when the economy was at its peak. People who say this, also came here when businesses were being created and booming in California, yet actually many people AND businesses are leaving California because the costs are so high. The workers compensation system alone, has caused many businesses to be forced out, and this isn't even counting the high square footage cost for businesses. SO these people say that California is a good place to work, banking on their own past experiences, which were from totally different variables. I also wish to state that competitive advantage for YOU, and for an area are totally different things. In my opinion if you are wondering about air quality and considering a move to California, please reconsider. Competitive advantage for you, is probably near or with your own family or extended family where you can help each other out. Asthma and respiratory illnesses ARE a disability whether acknowledged publicly or not. We living with it know this, and you have to count on the fact that you need to put yourself in an environment where you can compensate for your inability to use as much energy and effort as people who are able to live a normal life. In my opinion, finding a place to live...a good idea is to rent a room with family that you can trust, but have your area considered separate so they can't bother you about staying home sick, etc. When looking at choosing a place to live, with this disability, I would have to say one type of competitive advantage you can put yourself in is finding places to live, where uneducated or low paid people can still get into their own housing. Measuring percentage of homeowners in an area is also a good idea. In California, the number of homeowners to renters has gone significantly down, because the housing costs and rents are out of control. This hasn't stopped with the housing crash, because rentals are still high. This will continue to be the case, and while it isn't asthma directly related, living your life paycheck to paycheck IS related and relevant. Good luck, Noah Subject: Re: Re: Anyone in California? To: asthma Date: Thursday, June 26, 2008, 6:22 PM If you are asking me I'm in Fresno County. Pretty far from Mendocino. Guest guest
I so agree with you Noah. I was born and raised in Downey, CA. What changes I have seen. Fortunatly we bought our condo 8 years ago. There are so many in our complex in foreclosure now. No one can afford them. Jobs are hard to find and don't pay much either. With 2 incomes we are struggling terribly. This whole thing stresses me out which makes my asthma worse. Cheryl Burton ncicheryl@... Guest guest
Singulair works best if you use it everyday however it has been approved for 'as needed " use in exercise induced asthma. http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/69039.php > > > > What county are you in? Guest guest
Is there a chance that ashtma can ever be reversed or does it just continually get worse in your adult life? Guest guest
First off, I hope you can be careful with who you listen to regarding the answer to this question. This guy in my church, who claims he had an asthma attack once in his life ( he claims he still has it, but he is more active than most sports nuts will ever be), claims that all you got to do is exercise more, get rid of what's making you sick, and life will be just fine after that; and if not then there's something wrong with you personally. A lot of people with mild cases share this type of view; oh yeah, and there's another sub-group there too that believe that you just got to eat more vegetables. My brother tells me this every time he visits too; but I already eat more vegetables than him, and my sisters. If it were true that asthma was curable, then you would have more severe cases stating this; not the milder ones who don't want to face reality. Acknowledging the seriousness of the illness, and that you're just going to have to live with it, doesn't have to be a negative thing; because by doing so, your positively putting youself in a better position of conservative spending, saving more because you know you will work less in your life, placing yourself in a more protected environment, etc. Often people who claim they are being positive by not giving in to asthma are actually being negative because they keep putting extra stress on their bodies by placing themselves in more risk and riskier environments that they don't need, and not letting their bodies get as much rest; when someone has this illness they typically might need an extra nap or sleep an extra hour or two. I've also noticed if I'm like ...about to go to the ER sick...then for a day or two I might naturally sleep like 12 hours or more.
