Guest guest
Oh isn't that the truth I've ALWAYS had one in hand, but since I don't travel as much anymore due to gas prices I guess I didn't give it a second thought, even my oldest son got on me. Guest guest
It's clear that being caught without our inhalers is a stressful event. And when I mentioned this to my longtime pulmonary specialist, he said--yes that is part of the stress component of asthma. We get " panicky " and the endocrine system reacts. I make a practice, now, of purposely going out without my inhaler unless I'm going through a particularly " bad " spell. I just tell myself that I'm not going to have an attack and to forget about it. It's been working. --marty > Were you just recently diagnosed with asthma? Guest guest
Watch out traveling with the inhalers, tho. Heat in the car might cause it to leak. I had that happen once. Also, I took a flight one time and had an inhaler in my purse and a back-up in my checked luggage in the cargo hold. When I arrived at my destination, all the propellent was gone from the back-up in the checked luggage. Probably had to do with variations in air pressure at flight altitudes. It has become a moot point with me, now, because my doctor (and CVS) won't permit me to have more than one inhaler at a time. Oddly, that causes me stress, too, because I know I'll be without an inhaler if the one I have fails. And CVS is a 40-mile drive for me to get another one. --marty On Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at 06:48 AM, Terry wrote: > That's the bad part lol I was diagnosed in 2005, and have never been > anywhere without it, not sure why I went out without it this time. > guess I took for granted that it was in the Envoy and it wasn't, but > now there's a brand new box in the console >  > > Terry > I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I just wish that > He didn't trust me so much. ~Mother > > > Teddy Bear's Early Learning Program > Established August of 1992 > >  > <image.tiff> > > From: asthma [mailto:asthma ] On Behalf > Of Autumn > Sent: Wednesday, June 25, 2008 6:31 AM > To: asthma > Subject: Re: Big no no > > > Were you just recently diagnosed with asthma? Guest guest
I'll be on a long-haul flight in a few weeks - I'm guessing from this that I'd be best putting ALL inhalers in my hand luggage? Guest guest
You know, Monday I wasnt feeling well so I made sure I had one inhaler in my backpack for work. Well...when I went looking for one I couldnt find any. Turns out I had 3 of them in my backpack...all in different pockets..lol. At least I was covered.. Btw...since I started the Flovent yesterday at noon, my pf went from 400 to 550 today. I guess I really needed to get seen! Anyway, my coughing is almost completely gone today as compared to Monday. And I dont want to sleep all day!! I even showed improvement on my workout at Curves. (Why I went on Monday I dont know, but I did and I struggled. I guess its something to do with finally getting disciplined to go 3x a week) Ill be anxiously awaiting the results of the allergy tests the doc wanted run yesterday. Guest guest
Hi Anne pleased to hear your peak flow is on the up so youre heading in the right direction. I am well confused though... You say yours are 400 then up to 550.. You know me on a good day im around 400.... the last 16 days or so they have been sitting at 200.. Gp told me to present at a & e or ring for ambulance if i feel im getting worse. The ony time i feel worse is when i do house chores etc.. but needs must with being on my own with 2 kids to... Have you ever experienced this long term low p/f and chest infection thing like i seem to have just now or anyone else reading this and let me know how you got through it and how long it took you to feel human again.... This site is absoloutely brilliant... its helping me understand my asthma much more.. I felt like i was the only one suffering in this way... other asthmatics apparently have been inundating the gp surgeries here so there is certianly something causing it. Guest guest
I was sick for almost 2.5 months, after my move to a new state back in November, I must of caught walking chest infection (flu) it was the worst time of my life, it lasted almost 2 months and I was running back and forth to the doctors desperate, circled the emergency room a few evenings, went on antiobiotics and all sorts of meds, which were strong themselves, one day my tongue started tingling, lost my hearing for almost a week (it was scary) then the following week, my eyesight started to go blurry, (went to eye doctor afraid something awful was happening) -- I could barely breath it was awful, there were time where my stomach felt it was sucking in because I couldn't breath my chest felt like a brick... it was awful, and I was at a new job trying to hide it and pretend nothing was wrong......................... I got better though. Re: Big no no You know, Monday I wasnt feeling well so I made sure I had one inhaler in my backpack for work. Well...when I went looking for one I couldnt find any. Guest guest
Jo, 400 is on the low end of my yellow zone and when I get to that point Im coughing like I have bronchitis. When things are going well I dont cough. #80 starts my red zone so rather than wait until I get in the red, I just decided to go to the doctor. The last few weeks Ive been waking up feeling like my medicine isnt working and walking around for the first hour or two being very touchy so I guess I should have gone a while ago. Back in February I was deep in my red zone and I ended up getting a steroid shot AND prednisone..and I was actually wheezing when they listened to my lung sounds. I didnt want to go that route again b/c a) my husband is out of town and it wasnt any fun (as if I need to say that)! I had bronchitis really bad, worse than most of the other times, once where it took me almost 3 months to completely get rid of it. It was a while ago now though and I remember tons of dr. visits and thats when we found out Im allergic to sulfa (after I took it for 9 days of a 10 day prescription). It took me a very long time to feel better but somehow I got through it. Lots of sleep, lots of fluids, lots of meds I guess is what did it. AnnGet the Moviefone Toolbar. Guest guest
Hi all. I just got my new peak flow meter. It is the Microlife PF 100. I followed the instructions that came with it but cannot get it to give me a reading. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks Cheryl Burton ncicheryl@...
