Guest guest
DETECTION OF COMPLICATIONS RELATED TO SILICONE IMPLANTS: Dr. Lu-Feng has been researching, studying, and documenting the effects of silicone on the human body for several years and has seen more patients with implant-related problems than most doctors. Dr. Feng is able to provide the most unique, advance, and accurate non-invasive diagnosis of ruptured implants and silicone in the tissue and lymph nodes through ultrasound and MRI. She works very closely with Radiologist Dr. Leonard Kahn, who is affiliated with The Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Kahn is considered one of the world's leading experts on ultrasound diagnosis of ruptured implants. Everyone's situation is entirely different and it is important to be evaluated if you think you may be having problems due to silicone implants. Dr. Feng provides a very thorough and comprehensive evaluation and if implant problems are detected, she will make you aware of your options. If Dr. Feng feels that removal is necessary, she will not only remove the implant(s), she will also remove the capsule surrounding the implant which can contain significant amounts of silicone. This procedure, referred to as a capsulectomy, is an integral part of Dr. Feng's implant removal procedure and provides greater peace of mind for the patient. If Dr. Feng detects a significant rupture of the implants with silicone spilled into surrounding tissue, she can selectively remove it with ultrasound guided mapping of the affected areas to ensure that most, if not all remaining silicone, is gone from the body. If necessary, she can also selectively remove certain lymph nodes containing silicone through ultrasound guided needle localization which is very precise as well as effective. Implant removal surgery is done as outpatient surgery and usually takes two hours under general anesthesia. As a rule however, patients with hard or firm breast implants usually take less time, and patients with soft implants, ruptured implants, implants under the muscle, or polyurethane-covered implants, generally take more time. If any additional procedures must be performed, such as mastopexy (breast lift), the surgery time will be slightly longer. Many insurance policies cover the majority of this expense, leaving you responsible for only the co-payment or deductible.
