Guest guest
There are now quite a few endos who Rx Armour. The problem is that most of them keep their patients undermedicated. Do keep us posted. Are you sure you have his name spelled correctly? I cannot find him on the TSBME site. In spite of my grandson having decent Total T3 & Total T4 numbers and a TSH of 1.52, his free levels are literally, bottom of the barrel, so to speak....especially the Free T3. I filled him in on the family history....that his mom, his grandmother (me), and his Aunt (my youngest daughter) all have the same problems...if you look at our basic tests we look quite "thyroid healthy" however, if you test our Free levels they are ALWAYS low and the Free T3 is always just barely above the lowest "normal" lab range. In his mom's case, it was 2.3 and the low lab range was 2.3! I mentioned we are all on Armour. Told him that you can't assume his thyroid is healthy because, so far, of my immediate family, the two that have needed surgery were a 13 and 17 yr old! Much to my surprise, he put Ian on 30 mg (1/2 grain) of Armour and we are to retest his levels again, in May. Now the real surprise was that he said we may also want to check his CORTISOL...(omg...I almost fell over!) as he said that can also cause you to gain weight! Would just like to know if anyone is seeing him and if he appears to be a "keeper". He is an Endo and those are not usually "keepers" LOL Faye How low will we go? Check out Yahoo! Guest guest
I found him by putting in just the first few letters. His name is Dattareya. There are no board orders against him, no criminal charges. Do keep us posted. Jan wrote: There are now quite a few endos who Rx Armour. Guest guest
Hi Jan, Yes, that's the way it's spelled on the business card. He's with North Texas Health Care Associates and they are in the building next door to Baylor Medical on McArthur & Hwy 183 in Irving. His card says he is Board Certified in Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism. Also says he is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the subspecialty Board of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. Ian's GP is the one who referred us to him. Of all the doctors in this group, he is the only one who will touch a child under 14, as none of them are pediatric endos. Faye PS By the way, I've found a lab in Bedford who we can order our own labs through. Don't know if all their tests are cheaper than Healthcheckusa but they charge about half of what Healthcheck does, on the Rev T3. I need to sit down with their cost sheets and compare them. They draw blood for 4 labs and the girl I spoke with (who is also hypothyroid) said we could order labs through them from Labcor. They also draw for Lab One...that's how I ran across them. My doctor says she has some patients who use Labcor and she has had no problems with their tests. Jan wrote: There are now quite a few endos who Rx Armour. Guest guest
That is a valuable piece of information. There are not very many docs of any kind who will treat a child with any kind of thyroid disorder. The lab in Bedford-do you need a doctor's order or can you order your own labs? In the past you had mentioned a GP with an Indian name who had prescribed Armour for one of your daughters. Is this the same GP who referred to Dattatreya? Guest guest
WOW, I'm impressed! I hope he won't keep him undermedicated. Guest guest
He is actually from India from what I can see on the TSBME site.Faye Reynolds wrote: Morning Kate, I was shocked too....1) that I didn't have to put up a BIG fight to get my grandson on meds and 2) that he even broached the subject of Cortisol! I went prepared with a printout of the Hypo symptoms (69 most common) that have been posted on this board...added "elevated cholesterol" as it was not on the list and also took a print out of his and his mother's "charted" labs. Pointed out that by the basic panel, we ALL appear to be in perfect (or at least good) thyroid health. Also pointed out of those within my immediate family, the two who have had thyroid surgery have been TEENS so our kids are NOT exempt! He amazed me at how easy it was (and I DID go armed with "ammo")! Also I mentioned he had the verticle ridges in his nails...and his response was "He has ridges in his nails?" but it wasn't said in a way that suggested he thought that was a BS symptom...for all I know, that may have been the deciding factor that caused him to put him on meds! LOL I'm not going to take him real seriously until I see how hard it is to get him to up Ian's meds, if I don't think his labs are good enough or his symptoms persist. Who knows, maybe there is at least one Endo who might be good! LOL He is Middle Eastern and, while no one but my sister has seen a Middle Eastern doctor, they seem to be a little more "liberal" in their treatment and seem to have less objection to Armour. Perhaps Armour was the med that most could afford in their home country.?? Don't worry...if he screws up, y'all will be the first one to know! FayeKate Guynn wrote: WOW, I'm impressed!
