Guest guest
Hmmm, I eat plenty of red meat. I eat lots of lamb, duck, rare beef, venison, pork of every kind, except bacon I find a bit too hard. What is off the menu? Perhaps bread - but that depends on the day and what I am wearing (LOL, in other words I have no idea why it works today and not tomorrow). My theory is that I am eating so little, so I eat the best of what I am having. So eat fillet steak, and will have it quite rare. I eat duck a fair bit not, its oily and seems to go down well. Like I said I ate ribs on Tuesday and had no worries, I didnt finish the whole rack - but then that is okay. I didnt eat the chips or salad that came with it, just the ribs and I was verry happy. I cant say that I have tried anything like biltong or jerky, so I couldnt say. But having said that I am not supposed to be able to eat calamari, squid or oysters as they are traditionally a terror to the band and I do and enjoy them at all my different levels of restriction. So give it a go - if it works then you are sweet. If not - have a 3 strikes and you are out policy, if it gives you trouble after 3 separate attempts give it the shove and stick with what works best. Guest guest
Oh and another thing - I cant do beef mince at all. If I try to eat a bolognaise that is made on beef I find it too tough and it gives me grief. So I make anything that I would once have used beef mince for with either lamb, pork or veal. I make a nice bobotie
Guest guest
Hello Y, Yes, ribs are definately still on the menu for me, thank goodness! Just speaking for myself, the things I just cannot eat anymore are hot chips, chicken breast and steak. I can still eat things like veal, chicken thighs, wings etc and mince isnt a problem either. I dont think biltong would be a problem, but you can only try it and see what happens because its a very individual thing, what people can handle and what they cant. Pork is sometimes a problem, sometimes not and the same with bread. One of the things I really like about the band is the fact that I no longer feel any guilt about spending money on food for myself because I know it goes a long way! Each normal portion of food takes me 3 meals to eat it, so its pretty economical. I am still in the habit of ordering an entree plus a main meal when I go out and of course by the time I have eaten the entree I cant fit the mains in but I doggy bag it and then it does me for the next few days! So.....if I feel like a special food treat e.g. smoked salmon, I just buy it because I deserve to put nice things in my body and I am being much kinder to it than I used to be, with all my "lets buy a variety bucket and eat most of it by myself" days....when I think about the amount of fat I consumed when I was overeating.......ok, binge eating........I just shudder! Oh, and I am saving myself an absolute fortune as well, so I figure the band has just about paid for itself in money saved now I dont buy crap all the time - I estimate I was spending something like $50 a week just on garbage for me! Anyone else relate?? Anyway, those were the bad old days and I have just realised I have actually come quite a long way....hmmmm. Must be my "philosophically musing" day, hey? Hi All, - I just read that Ribs can be on the menu - how delightful because I loooove Ribs.Dr H stated that I wouldn't be able to eat red meat anymore - not even mince (Not that this worries me too much as I am not much of a red meat eater, more of the white meat lover) is there any foods which are strictly a No NO?I note a lot you guys have had the band for a long time, and so I was just wondering what types of food are off the menu?I am also South African and love a bit of Biltong (don't know if you are familiar, but it's kind of like beef jerky) I have accepted that this is probably not going to be in my shopping list from now on.. but otherwise just curious to hear everyone else's experiences? Thanks a million.Yxx

Guest guest
Hi Ladies, - you make a nice Bobootie??? Hopefully I can have a taste some day!!! Thanks for all the words of wisdom ladies - It's kind of a relief to hear that there is NOTHING out of bounds per se, and it is more of a person by person thing. There is hope for me and my biltong yet!! Although I do hear your words, but I think I will try and see how it goes. - I reckon I used to spend about $100 - $150 per week on pure junk food per week for me. My husband was complaining about the $2000 charge for the surgery, and yet over the last 4 weeks (since beinging the TF stage pre-op) My husband and I have managed to save around $1500!!! This little band has nearly paid for itself haha... And better yet - hubby has stopped whinging!!!! On a slightly more negative note - as it turns out, I was the bad influence when it came to junk food (I was positive I was innocent LOL) - OH WELL - NO MORE I was also just reading about the clothes swap - what a FANTASTIC IDEA!!!!! I think I have clothes in my closet ranging from size 12 - 26... although currently I am into a 22-24 so lots of clothes just hanging round... Anyway - enough ramblings - thanks for the info and sharing all your experiences!! New bandits like me REALLY benefit from this type of forum. Guest guest
Hi Y, As everyone has said we are all very different with what we can and can't eat. As for mince it is one of my 'always safe options' and a favourite. Sheppards pie and chilli con carne are both great and I choc them full of veggies and both make a really nutritious meal, a great way to get protien. The left overs are always packed up in small containers and are my lunch at work for the next 3 days or so. And lets not forget nachos.... a less healthy option with all the cheese, sour cream and guacamole but it is always a great option when you are eating out with friends and unbanded people. Cheers B Dr H stated that I wouldn't be able to eat red meat anymore - not even mince.....
