Hi Everyone

I want to bring to everyone’s attention, the medication

Nurofen... AKA Ibuprofen......

I heard on the radio yesterday, it has been suggested to make this

medication a Schedule 8 Drug, this is actually a Police Register Drug, it is

accounted for, with very strict guidelines..

As a Bandster you SHOULD NOT take Ibuprofen as it can cause serious

damage to the lining of the stomach, and put your band in jeopardy. These can greatly

irritate your stomach pouch and cause a number of serious problems. You should

also avoid Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) such as aspirin,

ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), Naprosyn, Aleve, indomethacin, Celebrex or other

similar medications should not be taken after surgery. or other

over-the-counter arthritis pain or menstrual cramp medications.

If

you have any questions about whether a prescription medication or a non

prescription medication contains aspirin or other stomach-irritating compounds,

check with your doctor or pharmacist. Do not take any of these medications

unless you have first spoken with your surgeon or someone from your bariatric

surgery team for permission and instructions on how an exception might be made

in your case.

We have a lot of

new members, who may have taken this in the past and before banding. So if you

are taking these non prescription medications Tal To your Surgeon......

I don’t

want to scare people, but you need to be monitored if you take them, I checked

on a few web sites and they still warn against use, best to be safe than sorry,

many of us Geriatric Bandsters were informed, when I heard these warnings re

the severity of Nurofen yesterday, I thought it best to let our new people

know.... The problem with these medications lies in Long Term Use..... without

monitoring. Let your surgeon be your guide.......

Cheers

Rob
